Apple’s Siri AI Newsroom post is not only about talking to Siri. The same September 14 package lists Audio Intelligence for Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4. Those Watch features are marked for later this year, not for the September 14 software day.
Hardware side is specific. Built-in mic. S11 chip. Apple Intelligence models on a paired iPhone. Private Cloud Compute for some work. Apple put the new Watches on the floor with iPhone 18 Pro on September 18. The Audio Intelligence software layer is still on the later calendar.
Sound Recognition on the wrist
Sound Recognition comes to Apple Watch for users who are deaf or hard of hearing. Apple lists sirens, alarms, doorbells, and a baby crying. The Watch can alert even when the iPhone is not with the user. Processing for these features is described as on-device where Apple says so in the footnotes.
Live Rewind and Siri Recap
Live Rewind: double-press the Digital Crown. Apple says you get the previous 15 seconds of a conversation as a text snippet. You can ask Siri about that text or save it into the Siri app. Apple also says Live Rewind plays an audible chime even if the Watch is on silent, and shows a full-display animation plus a mic indicator so people nearby can see it is on.
Siri Recap: after a conversation, Apple Intelligence can generate a title and key points in the Siri app. Apple is clear it is a high-level summary, not a transcript. It is designed to drop sensitive items such as financial data or government IDs. Control Center can turn Recap on or off. Users pick where and when it takes notes.
Shazam on the Smart Stack
Shazam on Series 12 and Ultra 4 can detect music around you and put the title and artist on the Music Recognition widget in the Smart Stack. Apple presents that as glanceable on the wrist. No separate open-the-app step in the marketing copy.
Privacy lines Apple drew
Apple says Audio Intelligence does not create or store audio recordings. Raw audio for processing is described as inaccessible to the OS, apps, the user, and Apple. The S11 chip includes Secure Exclave, a hardware-isolated compartment that processes audio and then deletes it. Features do not identify or attribute speakers. Live Rewind snippets and Siri Recap summaries sync in the Siri app with end-to-end encryption over iCloud, per Apple.
Siri Recap and Live Rewind arrive in beta later this year. That is Apple’s date language. It is not a September 14 download checkbox next to the English Siri AI beta. Public iOS 27 is still on build 24A437 while Xcode 27.1 beta tracks 27A9269. Duo’s own October 23 ship path is a different OS story on the Duo iOS 27.1 brief.
