Apple released Final Cut Camera 2.4 on September 29. It is a free update. The pro filming app for iPhone gets a new design, support for the variable aperture camera on iPhone 18 Pro, and a set of monitoring tools that come with iOS 27.
Apple says the app was redesigned from the ground up. Shutter angle, ISO and white balance are easier to reach. Overlays are customizable, including false color and clipping indicators for exposure. Focus peaking now has a sensitivity control. A new tally light shows when recording is underway. A two-finger tap clears the viewfinder.
Aperture priority and shutter priority on iPhone 18 Pro
The Fusion Main camera on iPhone 18 Pro brings aperture control to iPhone for the first time. Our launch report covered the ƒ/1.48 to ƒ/4 range. Version 2.4 lets creators dial in the aperture directly, or choose between shutter priority and aperture priority modes.
The update also unlocks Cinematic mode effects for regular video. That includes footage captured in ProRes and Apple Log. Focus points and depth of field can then be adjusted while editing in Final Cut Pro. Our iFixit teardown notes covered the variable aperture hardware itself.
Third-party apps are moving too. Lux Optics released Halide 3.2 this week with its first iPhone 18 Pro update, including an aperture feature and two new looks, 9to5Mac reported.
RGB Parade, clean SDI out and genlock offset
Three iOS 27 additions target broadcast and multicam work. Professional video scopes arrive first. The RGB Parade shows the red, green and blue channels separately to check color balance and exposure. A histogram sits alongside it.
Clean SDI out sends a clean video signal through an HDMI-to-SDI converter, for broadcast-quality streaming. Genlock offset compensates for image artifacts when a display is in the shot, or for latency differences between the iPhone and other genlocked cameras.
Final Cut Pro, Motion and Compressor on the Mac
Apple Creator Studio got updates the same day. Final Cut Pro and Motion on Mac can now add Cinematic mode effects to video captured natively on iPhone 18 Pro, with focus points and depth of field adjusted in the timeline. Compressor can convert that video back into the previous Cinematic mode format. It also adds HEVC and MPEG-4 export presets for social sharing.
Pixelmator Pro for iPad picks up Select and Mask from the Mac version, for fine edges like hair or fur. Pixelmator Pro on Mac and iPad adds two template collections and a Podcasts category with cover artwork. Keynote, Pages and Numbers get new templates and themes for subscribers. Intelligent slide generation in Keynote now creates images for a presentation. Numbers adds trigonometry, statistics and logic functions. Pages for Mac adds Screen View.
Freeform and the subscription price
Freeform boards now adapt to Dark Mode automatically, and folders group boards into collections. Writing Tools with Apple Intelligence can rewrite, proofread and summarize handwritten notes. In visionOS 27, users can pull several items from a board into their space and view 3D models together as a group.
All of the updates are available now. Apple Creator Studio costs $12.99 a month and covers Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro and Pixelmator Pro, MacRumors noted. Final Cut Camera itself stays free.
