IT House reported on September 3 that the technology media business-standard published a blog post yesterday (September 2), citing data from the market research agency Omdia, saying that India will become the fourth largest iPhone market in the world in the second quarter of 2026.

The blog reported that the total global iPhone shipments in the second quarter of 2026 were 55.12 million units, of which 3.45 million iPhones were shipped to India (accounting for 6.25% of its total global shipments). Apple’s mobile phone market share in India reached 10%.

IT Home quoted a blog post as saying that the United States topped the list with 17.61 million iPhone shipments in the second quarter, which was five times that of India and accounted for 31.9% of Apple’s total global shipments.

China followed closely, with shipments of 12.43 million units (3.6 times that of India), while the third-ranked Japanese market shipped 4.5 million units, accounting for 8.16% of global iPhone shipments.

Given the huge gap in iPhone shipments between India and the two major markets of the United States and China, analysts believe that India’s next near-term goal will be to overtake Japan and rank third.

Omdia Chief Analyst Sanyam Chaurasia said:

India may be able to break into third place in a special quarter like Q3 (since Q3 coincides with the festival season in India), but maintaining steady growth will take time. Our forecasts suggest that India is unlikely to overtake Japan within the next three to four years.
