Google is expected to hold a Made by Google press conference on August 13 (Taiwan time) to officially release the new generation of Pixel 11 series and simultaneously debut the Tensor G6 chip using TSMC’s 2nm process. If the news is correct, Google will seize the top spot in the world’s TSMC 2nm mobile phones, one month ahead of Apple.
TSMC 2nm chips will be the topic of the mobile phone market in the second half of the year, including Apple A20 series, Google Tensor G6, Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 series and MediaTek Dimensity 9600 series, etc., which are all expected to use TSMC 2nm. It is reported that based on the release schedule, the Pixel 11 series will be the first to grab the title of global launch.
New generation chips from Apple, Qualcomm and MediaTek will be launched in September
Next-generation flagship chips from other brands are expected to be launched one after another starting in September. Among them, Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 18 Pro series and the first foldable iPhone at the autumn conference in September, equipped with the A20 Pro chip. On the other hand, it is rumored that both Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and MediaTek Dimensity 9600 series may launch dual versions, which also means that the price of subsequent top-level Android flagship phones may be even higher.
Tensor G6 performance improvement may not be the focus
It is worth noting that current information points out that the CPU of Tensor G6 has been reduced to 7 cores and is equipped with PowerVR CXT-48-1536 GPU. This GPU architecture can be traced back to 2021, showing that Google has not focused on significantly improving performance. However, there is also good news. Google will abandon Samsung modems and switch to MediaTek M90, which will improve signal stability, power consumption and reduce problems such as the phone’s tendency to heat up.
Overall, Tensor G6 continues Google’s consistent design thinking, which is not pursuing higher running scores or extreme performance, but focusing on daily use experience and enhanced AI functions.
