The token cost will be something like $80,000 / 36 months (pick your estimated lifespan) How many tokens you get per dollar is depend also on how utilized the system is and the throughput of the models you are running on. Not zero – high capex- but still roughly $2000 per month or so
$20k for the most powerful AI desktop computer you can buy isn't a deal breaker for those who would prefer not spend thousands on tokens. $80k for four is a crazy good AI system that the data centers should be very worried about.
This wasn't a surprise. It was more of a surprise that the new M5 Mini and wasn't announced at the June WWDC. After that, outlets all over said, at least the Mini would be announced in summer and Studio in fall.
While competitors boasted about FLOPS and datacenter megawatt clusters, Cook focused on what the actual end-user experience of AI should be: instant, offline, completely private, and free of monthly subscription fees. By fixing the memory bandwidth bottleneck on local silicon, Apple turned high-end AI execution into a basic feature of the machine rather than a rented cloud utility.
Anyone who was around for the first Macs prices and looks at what the cost would be in today’s dollars should calm down. Does more costs less.
The companies are masters at creating a neverending demand for the "the next great thing". I'm opting out.

I hate the cost, but upgrading from my M1 Pro to the M6 Mac Mini seems like a great option to me for a daily use computer. Especially with good trade-in valuie
