IT House reported on September 9 that Korean media ZDNet Korea published a blog post yesterday (September 8), reporting that Samsung Display plans to expand the number of OLED panels supplied to Apple from 10 million to 24 million in 2027, an increase of 140%.
IT Home quoted the blog post and attached the relevant chart data as follows:
| Panel category | 2026 | 2027 | Increase or decrease quantity | Year-on-year change |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| iPhone OLED | 144 million yuan | 148 million yuan | An increase of 4 million yuan | Approximately 2.8% increase |
| Apple foldable screen OLED (7.8 inches) | 8 million yuan | 15 million yuan | An increase of 7 million yuan | an increase of 87.5% |
| iPad OLED | 2 million yuan | 9 million yuan | An increase of 7 million yuan | 350% increase |
| Folding screen + iPad OLED total | 10 million yuan | 24 million yuan | An increase of 14 million yuan | 140% increase |
According to forecast information from market research firm UBI Research, the number of OLED panels required for Apple’s iPhone in 2026 will reach 264.7 million, while Samsung Display is expected to supply 144 million. The agency also estimates that Samsung Display will supply 148 million panels in 2027.
iPad OLED has the largest growth. Reports show that Apple has used OLED in the 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro. It plans to introduce OLED into the 8.5-inch iPad mini in 2026, and then expand to the 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Air in 2027.
The 2027 target of 15 million folding screen OLEDs covers the demand for Apple’s first folding screen mobile phone and its subsequent new models; however, reports indicate that the yield rate of hinges and substrates, as well as demand changes caused by product selling prices and memory price increases, may affect the final purchase volume.
