Leaker Digital Chat Station has posted on Weibo that all iPhone17, iPhone17 Air, iPhone17 Pro and iPhone17 Pro Max will feature metal exterior batteries and low temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO)-OLED displays.
Metal exterior battery installed on iPhone16 Pro
It seems that the metal exterior battery, which is only available on the iPhone 16 Pro, will be available on all four models of the iPhone 17 series: the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max.
The disassembly report reported that the exterior material of the metal exterior battery, which is only available on the iPhone 16 Pro, is made of stainless steel.
This has resulted in an iPhone 16 Pro’s battery capacity of 3,582mAh, an increase of approximately 9.4% compared to the iPhone 15 Pro’s battery capacity of 3,274mAh.
Calculating battery capacity for iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro Max
If we assume that the battery capacity of the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro Max increases to a similar level compared to the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro Max, the battery capacity of the iPhone 17 would increase from 3,561mAh on the iPhone 16 to 3,896mAh, and the battery capacity of the iPhone 17 Pro Max will increase from 4,685mAh on the iPhone 16 Pro Max to 5,125mAh.
This shows the possibility of over 5,000mAh being achieved, along with the expectation that the iPhone17 Pro Max will be equipped with an improved stacked battery, which could increase its capacity to 5,300mAh.
Although the battery capacity of the thin model iPhone17 Air is reduced compared to the iPhone16 Plus, the use of a stainless steel exterior battery can be expected to reduce the decrease.
Maximum refresh rate of 120Hz has been expanded to 4 models
Digital Chat Station also states that the iPhone 17 series will not only feature the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, but also the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air with LTPO-OLED displays.
All parties have previously reported that the maximum refresh rate of 120Hz will be achieved by installing LTPO-OLED displays on all models.
