The latest Apple Watch Series 12, which was just announced at an Apple event, has a slightly smaller display area than the Series 10 and Series 11. It seems like device displays get bigger with each generation, but this time it looks a little different.
Although the display area is reduced by about 2%, the number of pixels remains the same.
According to the Apple Watch Series 12 specifications posted on Apple’s official website, the 46mm model of Series 12 has a display area of 1,196 square millimeters, which is about 2% smaller than the 1,220 square millimeters of Series 10 and Series 11.
The display area of the 42mm model has also been reduced by approximately 1.9% from 989 square millimeters to 970 square millimeters.
On the other hand, the number of pixels does not change between Series 10, Series 11, and Series 12, with the 46 mm model being 416 x 496 pixels and the 42 mm model being 374 x 446 pixels.
The display is smaller, but the case is slightly larger.

The width of the 46mm model has increased by 1mm from 46mm x 39mm x 9.7mm to 46mm x 40mm x 9.7mm, and the width of the 42mm model has increased by 1mm from 42mm x 36mm x 9.7mm to 42mm x 37mm x 9.7mm.
Does the black border around the screen look thick?
Even with the model change from Series 9 to Series 10, the edges of the metal case visible on the outside became thinner, but the edges, including the black glass around the screen, became thicker.
In other words, although the case itself had a clean design, when looking at the actual display area, the margins around the screen were rather wide.
Series 12 also has a smaller display area and a slightly larger case, so the black border around the screen may feel thicker than Series 10 and Series 11.
