Apple has released the RC (Release Candidate) of next-generation OS such as iOS27 to developers and public beta test registered users. If no major issues are found, this is the final candidate version that will be released to general users as the official version on Tuesday, September 15th, Japan time.
RC such as iOS27 released
Immediately after the event announcing the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo, Apple released the RC (Release Candidate) of next-generation OS such as iOS 27 to developers and public beta test registered users.
RC has been released for iOS27, iPadOS27, watchOS27, macOS 27 Golden Gate, visionOS27, and tvOS27.
The official version will be released on Tuesday, September 15th.
Apple has announced that it will release the official version of its next-generation OS, including iOS 27, on Tuesday, September 15th, Japan time. Based on past distribution timings, it is expected that the service will begin at around 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 15th.
The compatible models of iOS27 have not changed from iOS26, so any iPhone running iOS26 can be updated to iOS27.
If your device is compatible, you can install it from Software Update in the Settings app.
However, major updates are large and take time to download and install.
The download size in my environment was 8.46GB for iOS27 RC on iPhone14 Pro, and 8.59GB for iPadOS27 RC on iPad mini (A17 Pro). Please note that the capacity may vary depending on the device and current OS version.
As this is a large update, we recommend that you install it in a stable Wi-Fi environment with plenty of time to spare.
What is RC? Final stage of beta testing
RC is a version that is in the final stage of beta testing and is a candidate for release as an official version.
If no major issues are found, this RC may be released to the general public as an official version.
Since iOS27 was announced at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC26) in June, it has been released up to Beta 8 for developers.
This RC was released 9 days after Beta 8 was released.
Evolution of AI functions and faster operation in iOS27
With iOS27, new AI features from Apple Intelligence will be available on compatible iPhones.
With iOS27, Siri AI will be provided as a separate app. Siri AI is a chat-type app similar to ChatGPT, and uses general knowledge, personal data such as messages and emails, and information on the screen to answer questions.
Siri AI will be available in English, with Japanese support scheduled for October.
iPhone runs faster even on older models
iOS27 is designed to speed up operations, including on older iPhone models. It is said to improve general daily operations such as launching apps, AirDrop, loading photos into the library, and switching between Wi-Fi and cellular communication.
Therefore, you can enjoy the benefits of iOS27 without purchasing a new iPhone that supports Apple Intelligence.
The design of Liquid Glass has also been updated to allow users to adjust its transparency.
