IT House reported on September 9 that according to Bloomberg, Apple’s upcoming iPhone 18 Pro will be equipped with a narrower smart island that can display more real-time activities than the current iPhone 17 Pro.
Mark Gurman reported that the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are equipped with this “smaller and optimized” new Smart Island, which allows users to “switch between three real-time tasks” at the top of the screen.
Previously, Smart Island could only display up to two real-time activities at a time. This design has been used since the release of iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max in 2022.
Gurman also said that the appearance of the iPhone 18 Pro series is roughly similar to the iPhone 17 Pro series, with only a new burgundy color added to replace the previously popular Xingyu Orange. It was previously reported that the new phone will also be launched in sky blue and silver versions.
Internal hardware upgrades include: a new A20 Pro chip built using TSMC’s 2nm process, longer battery life, a redesigned vapor chamber cooling system, and a physically variable aperture lens. This lens can achieve more precise depth of field effects and stronger low-light shooting capabilities, but this lens feature may be exclusive to the larger iPhone 18 Pro Max.
