iOS 27 moves the Liquid Glass control. It is no longer a Clear or Tinted pair under Display & Brightness. Apple put a continuous slider in a new Appearance section.
That matters on day two of the update. Notifications, Control Center, folders, and Lock Screen banners all follow the same dial.
Settings path on iOS 27
Open Settings. Tap Appearance. Tap Liquid Glass.
Drag left for a clearer, more transparent look. Drag right for more tint and opacity. The midpoint is Apple’s default. The preview redraws while you move the slider, so you do not need to leave Settings to check.
On first install, iOS 27 can show this slider once. Appearance is the place to find it again.
What changed from iOS 26
iOS 26.1 added Clear and Tinted under Display & Brightness. Two stops only. iOS 27 replaces that with the full range and gathers Light mode, Dark mode, text size, and Liquid Glass under Appearance.
Apple also says Liquid Glass now softens complex content behind the glass and draws a clearer line between layers. The slider still applies system-wide.
If the slider is not enough
Even at the tinted end, some glass remains. Two Accessibility rows push further.
Go to Settings, Accessibility, Display & Text Size. Turn on Reduce Transparency for flatter backgrounds. Turn on Increase Contrast if edges between buttons and text still look soft.
Those Accessibility toggles sit next to Larger Text and Bold Text. They are separate from the Appearance slider.
Quick check after the update
After iOS 27 installs from Settings, General, Software Update, open Appearance and set Liquid Glass once. Then swipe Control Center and look at a Lock Screen notification. If the glass still feels thin, nudge the slider right before you touch Reduce Transparency.
