A bit of a different than my usual videos but I couldn’t resist to share this.
Recently got the Gigabyte G5 KF, despite of all the negative reviews. The laptop is great for it’s price (RTX 4060 in a laptop at this price?!), it simply just has had a very bad thermal paste job done to it which after correcting works very well.
In this video I quickly go over the teardown of the laptop, upgrading the RAM and adding a second m.2 SSD, as well showcasing the bad thermal paste job that it had before I replaced it.
Default specs of the Gigabyte G5 KF are as follows:
i5-12500H
15.6 IPS, FHD 144Hz,
2x8GB DDR4
512GB SSD Gen4
nVIDIA RTX 4060 8GB GDDR6
I replaced the RAM to 2x16GB DDR4 3200MHZ G-Skill RipJaws
and added a second m.2 1TB SSD.
After which I repasted the thermal paste of the CPU and GPU and made some tweaks with ThrottleStop and both the CPU and GPU temps have improved immensely.
Do this at your decision and choice, this video is not to encourage you to do this for your laptop! But a showcase of what I decided to do to alleviate the issues with this laptop.

Have you been able to access the real advanced bios to perform the IMON + AC loadline tweaks? The IMON tweak under reports CPU power draw so GPU will get max TDP via dynamic boost and because CPU thinks its using less power than it is, it'll draw more power. This lets both CPU and GPU use max TDP even when both are loaded. I found it greatly helps in very CPU and GPU demanding games like CP2077.
Also have you propped up the laptop? I did all these tweaks to my nitro 5 and now it pushes an additional 40w or so in CP2077 and gets lower temps than stock. Gelid extreme is a pretty good paste. Not sure how long it'll last.
Protip: Get some genuine PTM7950. Its a phase change material so it'll perform about on par with the best thermal pastes. But it'll stay effective for much longer.
Hi, can you please tell me what is the thickness of thermal pad used?, i am planing to repaste mine with noctua nth2 and was also going to change thermal pads.

Very informative but you did not show on how to pop off the bottom of the case without cracking or defacing it. I have removed all 13 black screws but have no idea why the bottom does not lift off and where to insert a thin device to nudge the bottom off. Thanks

Hello! Thank you so much for the video, I just bought one and this helped a lot! Just one question. I checked the qualified vendor list for this laptop and Ripjaws do not seem to be included in it. Would this cause any issues? I was planning on buying a RAM upgrade from Corsair or HyperX but I'm hesitant due to the qualified vendor list. Is there a specific CL or timings it does not support? Also do you know if you need to turn on XMP profile for the correct timings?

Hey, I was wondering if it is possible to change the ram speeds in the Insyde bios? I couldn't find the setting myself. Once I get a new kit of ram will it automatically default to the advertised speeds or will they only run at stock JEDEC speeds?

Hi Pete, i just purchased this laptop for schooling and mid level gaming. I am planning on upgrading the ssd and ram. I have the ram all figured out, but I am worried about my m.2 ssd and the heating issues. I bought a kingston fury. It has its own heat shield built in. Do I need to add a thermal pad?. Sorry if thats a stupid question. Great video btw. It helped me out alot.

I heard I can use a regular SSD 2.5 sat for most laptops. I have one 1 gb sat SSD 2.5 in my stationary computer. Would that fit? Looks like a different SSD you are using. Can someone explain?

I just bought one a week ago and i have to say that my GPU temps are fine (both idle and in games) but CPU temps absolutely sky rocket to 95 degrees C while gaming. Should i try and repaste the CPU? (btw i use the same thermal paste:D).
