Apple may reduce the size of the dynamic island on iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.
Apple is expected to launch iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in September this year. The screen sizes are said to remain 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches, the same as the current iPhone 17 Pro series. However, compared to the screen size, the front design may undergo major changes over the years. There are rumors in the market that Apple is testing moving the Face ID component to the bottom of the screen, and will also shrink the dynamic island. This will be the biggest change since the iPhone 14 Pro replaces the bangs in 2022.
If the technology is successfully introduced, some components of the TrueDepth camera system can be hidden under the screen, allowing the dynamic island to be further reduced or even eliminated. The relevant news is still divided. “The Information” pointed out that Apple may change the iPhone 18 Pro to a single punch-hole front lens in the upper left corner and completely remove the dynamic island; however, display analyst Ross Young and Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman believe that Apple is more likely to retain a smaller version of the dynamic island.
In addition, whistleblower Ice Universe claimed that the width of the dynamic island of the iPhone 18 Pro series may be reduced by about 35%, from about 20.7mm on the iPhone 17 Pro to about 13.5mm. Apple has recently evaluated two options, including using the existing screen mold, and using an under-screen design for the Face ID transmitter and receiver to create a smaller Mini dynamic island.
Apple has not yet confirmed the news. The iPhone 18 Pro series is expected to be released in September this year, while the standard version of iPhone 18 and the second-generation iPhone Air may be postponed to around March 2027.
