Apple’s new generation iPhone 18 Pro series and the first foldable iPhone are expected to debut in September. Both new models will be equipped with the new A20 Pro chip. One of the highlights is that it is expected to use TSMC’s 2nm process for the first time.
A20 Pro performance and energy efficiency have been upgraded
According to the latest news from the Chinese Weibo account “Focus Digital”, the supply chain revealed that compared to the previous generation, the performance of the A20 Pro chip is expected to increase by 18% and the energy efficiency will increase by 30%. If the news is true, it will not only be more efficient, but also expected to reduce power consumption and improve battery life.
It was originally believed that the Tensor G6 chip of the Google Pixel 11 series might seize TSMC’s 2nm process for the first time. With the release of the new phone last week, Google has confirmed that this is not the case. Tensor G6 actually uses TSMC’s improved 3nm process. Therefore, it seems that the first mobile phone chip produced by TSMC’s 2nm process will still be won by Apple’s A20 Pro.
In addition to process upgrades, there are previous rumors that the A20 Pro will introduce a new Wafer-Level Multi-Chip Module (WMCM) packaging technology. Both the manufacturing process and packaging technology have been upgraded, which also makes the outside world expect that the progress of this year’s A20 Pro will be more obvious than previous generations. However, the actual performance, power consumption, etc. still have to wait for Apple’s September press conference to be officially announced.
