Apple is expected to launch a new generation of iPad mini as soon as October this year. The latest news from foreign media points out that this small-sized tablet will undergo the biggest upgrade in recent years. Not only will it be officially waterproof for the first time, it will also be equipped with an OLED screen and a new generation of processors. The overall specifications will be in line with flagship models.
According to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, one of the biggest highlights of the new iPad mini is its new waterproof body design. Unlike the existing iPad, which does not have any waterproof rating, the new model will produce sound through innovative “vibrating speaker” technology, eliminating the traditional speaker opening and instead vibrating the body panel to emit sound, greatly reducing the chance of water vapor and dust entering the body. The protection capability is expected to be close to that of the iPhone. However, Apple has not yet announced what IP protection level it will obtain.
In addition to the waterproof design, the new iPad mini is also rumored to use an OLED display panel for the first time, becoming the second iPad series to use OLED after the iPad Pro. It is reported that the new phone will be equipped with an 8.4-inch LTPS OLED screen with a refresh rate of 60Hz. Therefore, it does not support ProMotion 120Hz, but it can still bring higher contrast, deeper black levels and better power saving performance.
In terms of performance, it is also the focus of upgrades. The outside world was originally expected to be equipped with the A19 Pro chip, but the latest information shows that Apple may directly import the unreleased A20 Pro processor to provide more powerful Apple Intelligence computing capabilities and further enhance the AI application experience.
South Korean supply chain news pointed out that Samsung Display has begun mass production of OLED panels required for the new iPad mini, indicating that the new model has entered the mass production stage and will be officially released as soon as October. Due to the comprehensive upgrade of the screen and hardware, the market also expects that the price of the new generation iPad mini will be higher than the current version, making it one of Apple’s most anticipated new products in the second half of this year.
