As the expected release time of HUAWEI’s new 2026 Mate series gradually approaches, specifications and details of this series of new machines are also leaking out online. The latest news points out that HUAWEI Mate 90 Pro Max will have new changes in lens configuration, with the opportunity to directly use the zoom lens module of the previous generation top model Mate 80 RS Ultimate Design!
According to the domestic Weibo whistleblower @digitchatstation, when inspecting the engineering machine of HUAWEI Mate 90 Pro Max, it was found that the machine is equipped with a set of huge telephoto lenses, and the configuration is very similar to the zoom lens design of Mate 80 RS Ultimate Design. In addition, it is reported that the manufacturer is currently testing a new 200-megapixel sensor called OmniVision OV52A for the new phone. This sensor measures 1/1.28 inches in size and supports triple periscope zoom. Because its photosensitive area is larger than some main lenses on the market, it can provide sufficient light input during zoom shooting, thereby improving the brightness and purity of the picture during night shooting and effectively controlling noise.
In terms of actual image performance, this sensor can provide clear edge image quality and preserve fine textures, and bring greater flexibility to post-production cropping. This technology also supports telephoto and macro shooting functions, helping to improve the practicality of daily photography. Although it is still uncertain whether the manufacturer will eventually adopt this new lens solution on the mass-produced version, if it is implemented, the overall photographic performance of Mate 90 Pro Max will be extremely competitive in the market.
For reference, the previous generation Mate 80 RS Ultimate Design used a dual telephoto rear camera system to respond to mid-range and long-range shooting needs. One of the systems is a 50-megapixel RYYB lens equipped with f/2.1 aperture and 91mm equivalent focal length, which supports four times optical zoom, PDAF phase focusing, OIS optical anti-shake and macro functions. Another set of 50-megapixel RYYB lenses has an f/3.2 aperture and a 140mm equivalent focal length, provides 6.2x optical zoom, and supports PDAF and OIS technology. As for what lens combination HUAWEI Mate 90 Pro Max will eventually use, it remains to be further officially announced.
