Google will hold a Made by Google press conference on August 13, Taiwan time. In addition to the new generation of Pixel 11 series flagship phones, the Pixel Watch 5 is also expected to be unveiled simultaneously. After the official images leaked in advance and revealed that the appearance design remains unchanged, the latest Google Play Console data has been exposed, further revealing the core hardware specifications of Pixel Watch 5.
Processor upgrade is limited?
According to Google Play Console, the Pixel Watch 5 is developed with the codename “godric” and is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 5100 platform, using a 4-core ARM Cortex-A53 CPU (clock 1.7GHz) and Adreno 702 GPU (clock 1GHz). It is worth noting that this CPU and GPU architecture has been used since Pixel Watch 2. If this news is true, it also means that Google will use the same architecture for four consecutive generations.
However, this does not mean that there are no changes at all. Although last year’s Pixel Watch 4 still uses a similar architecture, it has been upgraded to the Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 platform and is equipped with a Cortex-M55 co-processor to support new functions such as satellite emergency rescue. This time, Google Play Console did not disclose the co-processor specifications of Pixel Watch 5, so there is still an opportunity for upgrade, but most outsiders believe that Google has a higher chance of continuing to use it.
3GB memory is the biggest highlight
According to the current exposure information, the most obvious hardware upgrade of Pixel Watch 5 is the memory. The capacity will be increased from 2GB to 3GB. This is the first time that the Pixel Watch series has increased memory since its launch. It is speculated that this move is mainly to support more Gemini Intelligence functions and make the device-side AI operation smoother.
On the other hand, the Galaxy Watch 9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 released by Samsung this week have been the first to be equipped with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon Wear Elite SDW6100 processor, but the memory remains at 2GB. It can be seen that the two major brands have different development strategies on smart watches.
