Google has confirmed that it will release a new generation of Pixel 11 series flagship phones on August 13, Taiwan time, which is expected to bring four new phones: Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL and Pixel 11 Pro Fold. As the countdown to the press conference enters, one of the new phones has also passed the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) certification, unexpectedly revealing a major change in the Tensor G6 chip.
Certification documents for a Google Pixel phone recently appeared in the FCC database. The model number is GZDQ6, which is speculated to be the Pixel 11 Pro Fold. However, more than the new machine itself, what attracted more attention was a detail in the document, which further verified that Tensor G6 will abandon Samsung Exynos modem for the first time and adopt MediaTek solution.

In the mobile phone SAR (Specific Absorption Rate of Electromagnetic Waves) test file, the words “MediaTek algorithms” appear. Although the document does not directly name which modem to use, it is generally believed that this almost confirms that the Pixel 11 series will switch to MediaTek modem.

Since Google launched the Tensor chip, all generations of Pixel phones have used Samsung modems. Even though Tensor G5 was manufactured by TSMC last year, the modem continued to cooperate with Samsung and used Exynos 5400i. Therefore, if Tensor G6 really changes to cooperate with MediaTek, it will not only be the first time that the Tensor series uses a non-Samsung Exynos modem, but it will also mean that Google once again reduces its dependence on Samsung.
In fact, as early as the end of 2025, there was news that Tensor G6 will be equipped with MediaTek M90 modem. The focus of this change is not to pursue higher performance, but to improve power consumption, heat generation, signal stability, and battery life.
Since Samsung’s Exynos modem has been considered by many Pixel users to be one of the reasons for poor battery life, easy heating and unstable connection performance for many years, if Google really switches to MediaTek modem this time, the outside world is generally optimistic that the Pixel 11 series will be able to make up for this long-standing weakness.
