Visa officially announced that the Tap to Ride “Tap and Pay” service will be launched on a trial basis in Shenzhen Metro from now on, further improving the payment convenience for Hong Kong people and overseas tourists traveling in the Mainland. Shenzhen has also become the third city in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to support this service, after Hong Kong and Guangzhou.
This trial plan covers a total of 17 lines and 432 stations of the Shenzhen Metro. Passengers visiting Shenzhen only need to use a physical Visa chip card or a mobile device bound to a Visa card in front of the designated gate with the Visa logo to directly enter and exit the station. There is no need to pre-purchase tickets, prepare RMB cash or download any mainland mobile payment applications and go through the gate directly.
In addition, this electronic payment service has been extended to the business carriages of Shenzhen Metro Line 11. Passengers only need to take the simple steps of tapping their card twice to complete the relevant ticket checking and confirmation procedures.
VISA has introduced “pay as you go” technology in the public transportation networks of many major cities in mainland China. In addition to Hong Kong and the Guangzhou Metro, which are now open for use on all lines, this service has also been extended to other first-tier cities, including the Beijing Metro covering all 29 lines, the Shanghai Rail Transit, which is fully trialled on 21 lines, and the Chengdu public transportation network that supports more than 400 subway stations and more than 7,000 buses.
