Google confirmed at the I/O Developer Conference last week that it will join forces with Samsung to launch the first Android XR smart glasses this fall, officially entering a new market! Experts estimate that the product’s first-year sales may exceed the 2 million mark, sweeping nearly 20% of the market share. However, it is expected that the market leader will still be dominated by Meta.
According to a report by research firm Smart Analytics Global, shipments of Android XR glasses launched by Google are expected to reach 2 million units by the end of 2026. By cooperating with trendy eyewear brands Warby Parker and Gentle Monster to supervise the appearance design, combined with its existing channels, and the huge coverage of the Android system, this product is expected to jump to the second place in the market, with a market share of 18%.
Smart Analytics Global said that the partners chosen by Google are crucial. After all, glasses pay more attention to fashion styling, wearing comfort and myopia adjustment, so the experience of retail stores and brand trust are key. By cooperating with Warby Parker and Gentle Monster, which already have relevant experience and access, AI technology can be quickly brought into consumers’ daily lives. However, relying on its existing good reputation and cooperation with Ray-Ban, Meta is expected to still maintain its leading position in 2026, with an expected shipment market share of as high as 64%.
However, Smart Analytics Global believes that as ecosystem builders like Google join the fray, the competition for smart glasses will become more intense. The key to winning the market is not the AI technology itself, but how to perfectly combine fashion, AI, hardware, optometry and retail channels to create glasses that consumers are truly willing to wear every day.
