The soaring cost of memory has caused headaches for major mobile phone brands. How can they reduce costs on new phones? In this regard, Android leader Samsung may target the screen panel and choose to “downgrade” its next-generation flagship Galaxy S27.
Foreign media “ZDNet Korea” quoted research firm SigmaIntel as reporting that in order to avoid passing on rising costs to consumers or eroding its own profits, Samsung is considering starting with screens with higher unit prices. It is rumored that the Galaxy S27 series will adopt a dual supply chain strategy. The high-end models will continue to be supplied by Samsung Display, but the basic model Galaxy S27 may be handed over to China’s BOE.
Although BOE has supplied panels for basic iPhones, it is generally believed that the quality and stability are still not as good as those of Samsung Display and LG. Foreign media “AndroidHeadlines” analyzed that this may cause the Galaxy S27 to only use the older M13 OLED material, resulting in a gap between screen brightness and power consumption performance and high-end models, and facing product consistency challenges.
In addition to screen downgrades, it is rumored that many upgrades that Samsung originally planned to launch in the Galaxy S26 series were ultimately unable to be realized due to rising costs of components such as memory. In addition, Samsung has considered adjusting the position of the “camera island” to be compatible with Qi2 magnetic accessories. This plan may also be cut in half due to cost considerations. These may cause the upgrade range of the Galaxy S27 series to be limited.
