A foreign netizen ashadow_song recently posted on the Reddit social platform. He said that the Apple Watch Series 10 that he had used for only one year had serious paint peeling. The version is aluminum metal obsidian black. He then went to an Apple store for repair. Unexpectedly, the store clerk directly told him that it could be “replaced for free”, which surprised him.
According to the netizen’s description, Apple store personnel revealed to him that they had handled many similar cases and even bluntly said that “replacement is almost guaranteed.” The next day, he received a replacement notification letter from Apple. The entire process did not require AppleCare+ warranty, and his Apple Watch Series 10 warranty only had a few days left. He also encouraged users who encountered similar problems to report it to Apple.

However, in the past, some netizens on Reddit shared lucky examples of getting free replacements, but as of now, this is still an isolated case, and Apple has not provided free replacements on a large scale. Some users also received a reply when applying that “the appearance damage is normal signs of use”, so the replacement failed.
As of now, Apple has not issued an official statement on this matter, but it is worth noting that the latest generation of Apple Watch Series 11 is also available in an aluminum obsidian black version, but there have been no widespread complaints about paint peeling.
