Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo posted a statement that in order to improve the durability of folded iPhones and achieve the purpose of no crease on the screen, its hinges are largely made of liquid metal materials. Through die-casting processing, Yian Technology from Dongguan, Guangdong will be the exclusive supplier of Apple’s liquid metal.
It is reported that Dongguan Yian Technology Co., Ltd. was established in 1993 and has more than 30 years of experience in precision die castings of magnesium aluminum alloys. It is a high-tech enterprise integrating the research and development, production and marketing of new materials and light alloy die castings. The products it produces include automotive accessories (motors, electronic controls, battery packs, doors, CCBs, steering systems, central control equipment, consumer transmission systems and other electrical shells (electric shells).
Before folding the screen iPhone, Apple had already used liquid metal. For example, the card pins that popped up the SIM card slot used liquid metal materials, but this is the first time that liquid metal is used on the core precision devices of Apple equipment.
As of the end of 2024, Yian Technology has shipped more than 10 million key parts (material of liquid metal) and it is expected that other Android brand mobile phones will also use liquid metal to better compete with folding screen iPhones, which is conducive to the rapid growth of the liquid metal industry.
Guo Mingchi also said that he expects the unit price of liquid metal for each folding screen iPhone to be about 70-100 yuan. The first folding screen iPhone contributes about 1.5-2 billion to Yian Technology’s revenue. In the future, more Android brand folding screens will use liquid metal in large quantities, and Yian Technology’s performance will usher in a significant growth.
