Apple announced the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, iPhone Duo, Apple Watch Series 12, Apple Watch Ultra 4, and AirPods 5 at the new product announcement event “Surprise and shine.” (“Good morning world.” in Japanese) held from 2 a.m. on September 10, Japan time.

CEO John Ternus’ first announcement event after taking office
This announcement event is the first product announcement event for John Ternas, who just took over as CEO on September 1st, as the face of Apple.
In the opening video of the event, the camera goes up to a mysterious person with the phrase, “The main character this time is…” and former CEO Tim Cook is shown, but it also includes a scene where he grins and says, “No, that’s not me.”
iPhone18 Pro, iPhone18 Pro Max
The iPhone18 Pro and iPhone18 Pro Max are equipped with the A20 Pro chip with 2-nanometer process technology and a next-generation vapor chamber, allowing them to maintain high processing performance.
The main camera has a variable aperture mechanism, which expands the range of expression depending on the scene.
The iPhone 18 Pro Max boasts the longest battery life in iPhone history, with up to 45 hours of video playback.
There are four sizes of storage capacity available for both iPhone18 Pro and iPhone18 Pro Max models: 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB. 2TB, which was not available on the iPhone 17 Pro, is now available on the iPhone 18 Pro.
The sturdy aluminum body is available in four colors: burgundy, glacier, silver, and black.

AirPods 5
AirPods 5 has improved sound quality with a new design. Dustproof performance, sweat resistance and water resistance are IP57, which is an evolution from AirPods 4’s IP54.
There are two types available: a model with a wireless charging case and a regular model.
Both models are available with active noise canceling, which improves noise canceling performance by up to 50% compared to AirPods 4 with active noise canceling.
For models with a wireless charging case, the charging case not only supports wireless charging, but you can also adjust the volume with swipe operations, and the “Search” function allows you to play sound from the charging case’s speaker.
Models with wireless charging cases also have longer battery life.

Apple Watch Series 12
Apple Watch Series 12 is equipped with an improved heart rate sensor that Apple claims is the “best ever in a wearable device.”
Privacy-preserving audio intelligence powered by Apple Watch Series 12’s built-in microphone and S11 chip will be available later this year.
Apple Watch Series 12 cases are available in aluminum (dark bronze, light gold, black, space gray), titanium (natural titanium, radiant gold), and ceramic (pearl white, night blue).
Apple Watch Hermès Series 12 is available in Silver Titanium and Radiant Gold Titanium.

Apple Watch Ultra 4
Apple Watch Ultra 4 is equipped with the same high-precision heart rate sensor and S11 chip as Apple Watch Series 12.
Apple Watch Ultra 4 has longer battery life, with up to 50 hours of daily use and up to 84 hours in low power mode.
New to Apple Watch Ultra 4, the Long Workout mode supports up to 25 hours of battery life, 25% longer than previous generation models, even when recording workouts with maximum GPS and heart rate measurement frequency.
It also has improved charging speed, allowing up to 18 hours of use with just 15 minutes of charging.
Apple Watch Ultra 4 is available in natural titanium and black titanium.
iPhone Duo
At the end of the event, the first foldable iPhone, the iPhone Duo, was announced.
iPhone Duo has a 5.4-inch outer display when folded and a 7.6-inch inner display when unfolded.
When expanded, you can display one app in a larger size, or use two apps at the same time in Split View mode, which splits the screen into two.
Biometric authentication uses Touch ID, a fingerprint authentication installed on the side button, rather than facial recognition.
The inner display will be compatible with Apple Pencil (USB‑C) later this year.
