IT House News on September 8, Korean media newsis published a blog post, reporting that based on data released by the Korea Telecommunications Operators Association (KTOA) yesterday (September 7), after the release of the Samsung Galaxy Z8 series of folding mobile phones, South Korea’s mobile phone number portability users in August were approximately 680,000, with both year-on-year and month-on-month data rising (the original article did not disclose relevant quantitative data), setting a record this year.
The media quoted South Korean telecom industry officials as saying that the number of mobile phone number portability users increased in August this year, mainly related to the Galaxy Z Fold8, Galaxy Z Flip8 and Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra folding mobile phone models released by Samsung in August.
Industry officials also revealed that compared with the Galaxy Z7 series of foldable phones, among the user groups who upgraded to the Galaxy Z8 series of foldable phones, the proportion of previous iPhone users has doubled.
Note from IT House: The “number portability” here means that users retain their original mobile phone numbers, but transfer communication services from one operator to another. This does not mean that 680,000 people have changed their mobile phones, nor can it be directly equivalent to 680,000 independent users purchasing Galaxy Fold8.
Samsung Electronics said that the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Flip8 were pre-sold in South Korea for seven days, with a cumulative pre-sale volume of 1.44 million units.
The report pointed out that among teenagers aged 10 to 30, Galaxy Z Fold8 has attracted a large number of young people who were previously keen on using iPhone models due to its wide folding ratio.
When folded, the Galaxy Z Fold8 adopts a horizontal proportion close to that of a passport and reduces the thickness of the body. After unfolding, the device provides a large screen with a 4:3 ratio, which can cover content consumption scenarios such as e-books, web comics, and YouTube.
