Sonos has released the update to the App Store today. Sonos 27 has adopted a new naming convention for its software platform. This release is available for all devices compatible with the Sonos S2 system. However, the company clarified that the availability of certain features may vary depending on the specific hardware model.

This update introduces several functional improvements designed to improve the control and flexibility of your home audio system:
- Redesigned Navigation: The interface has been updated with a simpler and clearer structure, support for swiping operations, and the ability to pin rooms for faster control.
- Portable Surround Sound: It allows you to pair two identical portable speakers (Move 2 or Sonos Play) with a compatible soundbar to function as surround back speakers, then revert to independent functionality once moved.
- Headphone connection (Early Access): Ace Ultra headphones can connect to a Sonos system to transmit sound between nearby speakers and headphones without using your phone as an intermediary.
- Sonos 27mcp (early access version): Supports connection to third-party artificial intelligence assistants, such as ChatGPT and Claude, to provide more choices beyond a single assistant.
Features coming in the coming months
In addition to the features available starting today, the manufacturer also detailed its development plans for two subsequent tools, which will launch later this fall. Sonos 27 Voice is an exclusive assistant dedicated to music playback. After that, the company plans to launch Sonos custom agents around 2027. This option is designed to allow users to configure their own custom agents in the system, choosing a model, voice, and behavior.
