With only one week left before the release, Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman revealed a lot of new information in an interview with Tom’s Guide, involving hardware specifications, software features, time to market, and selling price. There are also some details that have never been exposed before.
There’s still a week left before the iPhone Ultra is released, but related revelations are still emerging. Gurman shared several new pieces of information during the interview, some of which have not been reported before.
There have been questions before whether MagSafe will appear on the iPhone Ultra. However, Gurman made it clear that this folding screen iPhone will not cancel MagSafe. “MagSafe will be there,” he said. “Yes, from everything I’ve heard, the foldable phone will have MagSafe.”
When talking about the hardware specifications of the iPhone Ultra, Gurman revealed that the phone will be equipped with a 5.5-inch external screen and a 7.8-inch internal screen, and will be equipped with the “latest generation Apple Pro chip” and the “latest generation Apple baseband.”
Gurman also responded to the two features of the “crease-free” screen and liquid metal hinge that are of concern to the outside world. He said the iPhone Ultra’s screen crease won’t completely disappear, but the effect will be as good as Samsung’s latest foldable phone, maybe even better, thanks to a more durable hinge design.
When it comes to the durability of the hinge and the entire machine, Gurman said that Apple’s goal is to make this folding screen phone have a durability level that is equivalent to, or at least very close to, other iPhones, and durability is also one of the issues that Apple has invested a lot of time and energy in solving.
Multitasking was also one of the features discussed in this interview. Gurman has previously revealed that iOS 27 will support an iPad-like application layout and allow users to run multiple applications side by side. Although it will not reach the level of iPad Pro-level multitasking, it will be better than the current multitasking experience on the iPhone. This time he further stated that the system will also support drag-and-drop operations between applications on multiple screens, so users can quickly move data from one application to another.
Gurman also said that the iPhone Ultra will not support Face ID, but he does not think this is a bad thing because the Touch ID experience is great, and some people may actually prefer Touch ID to Face ID. He also confirmed the absence of a telephoto lens, which he believes may be a deciding factor in some users abandoning the purchase.
Gurman also gave a relatively optimistic judgment regarding the launch time of iPhone Ultra. He said that he would be very surprised if this folding screen phone was not launched at the same time as the new Pro series iPhone or very close to the same time. “Either it will be launched on the same day, that is, the dual models will be launched simultaneously, or it will be launched a few weeks later. As for the so-called launch at the end of October and November, significant delays and supply chain issues, I think it is not true.”
