IT House reported on September 2 that in an interview with Tom’s Guide yesterday (September 1), Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman revealed that Apple’s first folding phone (expected to be called iPhone Ultra after launch) will support MagSafe magnetic charging.

Gurman revealed in the interview that based on relevant clues he has, Apple’s first folding phone will support MagSafe. Based on the fact that iPhone Air has incorporated this technology, and based on relevant revelations and technical perspectives, Apple is fully capable of implementing MagSafe.
MagSafe is Apple’s magnetic connection system. The magnets on the back of the phone can help the charger align the coil, and can also fix accessories such as brackets and card holders, similar to setting up an “automatic alignment” interface for the charger.
Gurman said the main design constraint facing the MagSafe function is the thickness of the body. According to reports, the unfolded thickness of the iPhone Ultra is rumored to be 4.5 mm. Due to the limited internal space of the fuselage, it is rumored that the machine does not have space to accommodate the camera hardware required for Face ID. Apple may instead use the Touch ID fingerprint recognition solution.
In addition to MagSafe, the rumored parameters compiled by the report include a 5.5-inch closed outer screen and a 7.8-inch unfoldable inner screen. The body design is said to be shorter and wider, similar to the wide folding proportions of a passport.
In terms of chips, the machine may be equipped with the A20 Pro chip and use Apple’s latest self-developed cellular network modem, which may be model C2. The imaging system is rumored to include wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle lenses, but not a telephoto lens.
In terms of structure, Apple is said to use durable hinges and minimize screen creases, but the creases will not completely disappear. On the system side, Apple is rumored to be letting applications automatically adjust the interface size to accommodate two screens of different sizes, both inside and outside.
In terms of release date, Reuters estimates that the iPhone Ultra will be released in a few markets such as the United States in September this year, and judging from supply chain news, there is currently no evidence that this opportunity will be postponed to 2027.
However, Reuters also said that the supply of iPhone Ultra is tight in the early stage of the launch, and the quantity of distribution is “extremely limited”, which may aggravate the situation of scalpers increasing prices.
