Following Apple’s announcement of the iPhone 17 series, iPhone Mania conducted an emergency reader survey to explore the purchase intentions and popular models of the iPhone 17 series. We have compiled some interesting results on the popular colors of each model of the iPhone 17 series, the ones you choose, and the models of the iPhone you are currently using.
An emergency survey was conducted following the announcement of the iPhone 17! 1,159 raw voices
On September 9th local time, Apple announced the AirPods Pro3, the three products of the iPhone 17, iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro/17 Pro Max, and Apple Watch.
iPhone Mania conducted a reader survey to explore the interest in these new products, especially the iPhone 17 series, and trends in popular models.
The survey began at 6am on September 10th, 2025, and although it was a short period of approximately 10 hours, at 4pm, 1,159 valid responses were collected. Thank you to everyone who helped us.
Current model used: Mini also digs into the top models with Pro models
When asked what iPhone I mainly use, the top 5 models were as follows:
The flagship models for the last two years, the Pro and Pro Max, have taken the top four, but the iPhone 13 mini, which is a popular mini model, is now in fifth place.

59.7% of people are considering purchasing the iPhone 17 series! 30% of AirPods Pro3
Among the new products announced at this event, 59.7% of the products that are considering purchasing (multiple answers allowed) are iPhone 17 series (including iPhone Air), and about 60% are considering purchasing the iPhone 17 series.
A survey conducted in July was about 40%, so after the official announcement of the iPhone 17 series, the intention to purchase has increased.
Second place was the AirPods Pro3, which has improved noise cancelling performance and increased battery life, at 29.9%.
Over 70% of respondents are considering purchasing one of the products, except for the 24.1% who say “no products are considering purchasing.”
Popular iPhone 17 series colors, models used by prospective buyers
When asked which models were considering purchasing the iPhone 17 series, the flagship iPhone17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro lined up in two top positions, with the iPhone Air, which achieved the thinnest ever, in third place, and the standard iPhone 17 in fourth place.
Who are your favorite colors of the iPhone 17?
When asked who are considering purchasing an iPhone 17, the most common color was mist blue, which gave a light impression, 27.9%.
The following are Black (23.8%), White (21.3%), Lavender (12.3%), and Sage (8.2%).

The characteristic trend is that iPhone13 mini and iPhone12 mini users are moving to the iPhone17.

The popular iPhone Air color, which is 5.6mm thin, is the top spot with Space Black, at 29.1%, while Sky Blue and Cloud White are in second place, both ranked at 25.3%.
Below are the top five models used by those considering purchasing an iPhone Air. The influx of the advanced iPhone16 Pro, released a year ago, is thought to be the psychology behind wanting to experience the latest and most recent products.
Users of the iPhone 13 mini, which is in fourth place, and the iPhone 12 mini, which is in fifth place, are likely to consider purchasing because they are attractive because of their thin and lightweight nature.

The popular color of the iPhone 17 Pro, which has changed dramatically from the previous color variations, is Deep Blue, which has gained popularity at 42.1%.
They lead by second place Silver (28.8%) and third place Cosmic Orange (18.0%).
The top five iPhone models that are mainly used by those considering purchasing the iPhone17 Pro are the “Pro” model monopolized the top five.

The iPhone17 Pro Max’s number one popular color is Deep Blue (36.8%), the same as the iPhone17 Pro.
However, Silver (27.8%), which is in second place, is close by Cosmic Orange (26.9%), which is interesting to note, making it a different trend than the iPhone 17 Pro.
The top five iPhone models that are mainly used by those considering purchasing the iPhone17 Pro Max are the “Pro Max” models, and the iPhone16 Pro Max and iPhone15 Pro Max are particularly high. You’ll see a view of the users who will continue to use the latest high-performance, large-screen models.

Determining the purchase: Different rating points for each model
When people considering purchasing the iPhone 17 series chose one of the biggest deciding factors to purchase, the following results were found for each model they were considering purchasing.
The iPhone 17 has the highest number of “display evolution” (29.5%), and although it is a standard model, it is believed that it has been praised for adopting ProMotion.
The iPhone Air’s top position is “thin and lightweight” at 52.5%, while the “new exterior design” at 22.8%, making its thinness and new design the most popular.
The iPhone 17 Pro’s most common were “unless it’s new features, it was time to buy a new one” (26.2%), and “improving camera performance” (23.2%) continues, indicating that camera performance is being emphasized.
The iPhone17 Pro Max is the top choice for being the latest iPhone (22.2%), and the camera performance continues to be a narrow margin (20.8%), with the latest, top-notch model and camera performance being the key to choosing.
Reservation/Purchase Date: 58.5% of reservations on the date of reservation start
When we asked people considering purchasing the iPhone 17 series when they would like to reserve or purchase, 58.5% said, “Pre-order on the start date and purchase on the release date,” accounting for about 60%.
Compared to “Check the actual product and reviews after the release date before purchasing (about 1 month after the release)” (15.2%) or “Check out the actual product and reviews after the release (about 2 to 6 months after the release)” (14.1%), it is clear that more people want to purchase it on the release date.
Where to buy: Online purchases are the mainstream
When we asked those considering purchasing the iPhone 17 series where they would like to reserve and purchase, the top answer was 62.6%, with “purchase from the Apple Online Store and pick up delivery.”
Second place was “Mobile carrier online shop” (13.7%), with online reservations and purchases accounting for 76.3%, and online reservations and purchases have become the mainstream.
Current iPhone: Trade-in with Apple and buyers are top
When we asked those considering purchasing the iPhone 17 series what to do with their previous iPhones, the most common answer was “putting it on Trade In (trade in) provided by Apple” (22.9%), and the narrowest answer was “selling it at a buyer’s store” (20.1%).
23.7% said they would leave it on hand, saying “It will be used as a spare or sub-unit” (17.0%) and “It’s still undecided how to use it, but I’ll keep it on hand” (6.8%).

The thin iPhone Air, which has been rumored for a while, has been noted about its design, name, and battery life.
“The iPhone Air is thin and beautiful as rumored, but when you actually use it every day, you worry about the battery life.”
“I was surprised that the name was iPhone Air, not iPhone 17 Air.”
“I feel that Apple wants to position itself as a new product.”
About eSIM
The iPhone 17 series, which will be released in Japan, has been discontinued with SIM cards and has completely moved to eSIM. Both voices of praise and confusion and concern were heard.
“Unifying all models with eSIM can be appreciated in that it promotes effective use of space.”
“I’m a little disappointed with the discontinuation of physical SIM cards.”

About design and color
We’ve noticed critical comments about the design and color variations of the rear camera part of the iPhone 17 series.
“It’s a shame that the iPhone 17 Pro’s color variations are not black.”
“I feel uncomfortable with the protruding back camera.”
In addition, comments welcomed the standard model iPhone 17 with a ProMotion display, which expanded storage capacity, as well as comments such as confusion about the overall high price, and the lack of surprises as before rumors.
Summary: Don’t miss out on reservations for popular models and colors!
Based on the results of the survey, the iPhone 17 Pro’s Deep Blue is likely to be the most popular among the iPhone 17 series.
The iPhone17 Air is attracting attention for its thinness, and although it is a standard model, the iPhone17 has achieved the performance level of the Pro model, and it seems to be popular due to its value.
Pre-orders for the iPhone 17 series will begin on Friday, September 12th.
