Apple (Apple) officially released the new generation AirPods 5 at the 2026 Apple Autumn Conference. It features an open headphone design with active noise reduction (ANC) function, and introduces a new multi-port acoustic architecture and a new generation of Adaptive EQ to further improve sound quality performance. Apple said that the active noise reduction effect of AirPods 5 is up to 50% higher than that of AirPods 4 equipped with ANC, making it the product with the strongest noise reduction ability among open design AirPods. In Taiwan, pre-orders will start at 9 a.m. on September 11, and sales will begin on September 18. Each person is limited to six pairs of AirPods 5.

AirPods 5 also upgrades the transparency mode, allowing users to hear surrounding voices and environmental sounds more naturally when the noise reduction function is turned on. It is also equipped with Adaptive Audio, which can automatically mix transparency mode and ANC according to environmental conditions. Conversation Awareness will automatically lower the media volume when the user starts to speak, making it easier to talk to people around you. There is also a new sliding ear handle to adjust the volume.

In terms of sound quality, AirPods 5 adopts a new multi-port acoustic architecture and a new generation of Adaptive EQ to optimize the sound for different ear types. Together with Personalized Spatial Audio, the sound field is more immersive. In addition, paired with an iPhone that supports Apple Intelligence, AirPods 5 can also use Siri AI, Siri interactive functions and Live Translation real-time translation. Users can even respond to Siri by nodding or shaking their heads.
AirPods 5 offers a standard charging case version and a wireless charging case, and increases the single playback time in ANC mode to 5 hours, and up to 22 hours with the charging case. The wireless charging box supports Apple Watch charger, Qi wireless charging and USB-C.
AirPods 5 uses 40% recycled materials overall, including the wireless charging box using 70% recycled plastic, and the battery using 100% recycled cobalt. The product supply chain is manufactured using 35% renewable energy, and paper packaging is also fully made of fiber materials. AirPods 5 is available for pre-order now and will be officially launched on September 18th.
