Garmin has continued to expand its wearable device portfolio in recent years. In addition to the familiar positioning smart watches, this year it also launched the CIRQA screenless smart bracelet. Now there are more signs that Garmin’s next step may be to enter the smart ring market.
Garmin smart ring reappears
According to foreign media Android Authority reports, Garmin’s unpublished products have appeared in the certification database of Brazil’s ANATEL telecommunications regulatory agency. There are 10 products in total, with models A05124, B05124, C05124, D05124, E05124, F05124, G05124, H05124, I05124 and AA5124.
However, the models of these 10 products are almost identical, only the first letters are different, so they are likely to be different versions of the same product. Outsiders speculate that if it is a smart watch, it is indeed unusual for 10 versions to appear at one time; but if it is replaced by a smart ring, it is much more reasonable. Unlike watches, which can be adjusted through the strap, smart rings need to be prepared in multiple sizes. Therefore, these 10 sets of models likely mean that Garmin smart rings will provide 10 different sizes.
In fact, this is not the first time Garmin smart rings have been exposed. Last month, a product called “CIRQA Smart Ring” briefly appeared in the Indonesian certification database, but was quickly removed. Now that new certification information has appeared in Brazil, the possibility that Garmin is preparing to launch a smart ring has further increased.
As for the appearance design, functions and launch time of the Garmin smart ring, there is currently no more news. However, if it is indeed launched, the functions are not expected to be much different from the smart rings on the market. It may also focus on all-day health monitoring, sleep tracking and other functions, and further integrate the Garmin Connect ecosystem.
Is the smart ring market cooling down?
However, although smart rings have become a new favorite in the wearable market in recent years, their popularity seems to be slowly cooling down. One of the main reasons is that the size of the ring is limited. The sensors, batteries and new functions that can be added are all limited by space. It is becoming increasingly difficult to make obvious differences between products. On the other hand, batteries have always been a major challenge for smart rings. In addition to battery life, some brand products have also reported issues related to batteries being shipped out of the package in the past, triggering discussions about safety concerns.
