Apple is expected to release its first foldable phone “iPhone Ultra” (tentative name) at its 2026 fall conference on September 10. However, according to the latest report from foreign media “9to5Mac”, due to Apple’s extremely strict quality control standards, the current production capacity of iPhone Ultra has slowed down significantly. At this stage, the daily output is only a few hundred units, and it may be difficult to meet the huge market demand in the early stages of sales.
The report pointed out that in order to ensure that the iPhone Ultra could fully comply with the original design specifications for mass production, Apple added a trial production process in August, which delayed the official commercial mass production schedule by several weeks. Supply chain sources revealed that Apple is currently focusing on improving the production yield of “screen surface flatness” and “rotation mechanism efficiency.” Normally, to achieve the scheduled production target of iPhone Ultra, the daily output needs to reach tens of thousands of units. The current scale is only a few hundred units, which may cause the supply volume to be quite tight in the early stage of launch.
Apple is expected to officially debut the iPhone Ultra at the 2026 Autumn Conference on September 10. It is also expected to simultaneously release a number of new products such as iPhone 18 Pro, Apple Watch Series 12, Apple Watch Ultra 4 and AirPods 5.
