Recently, promotional images of Xiaomi 18 Fold leaked online, and I was surprised to find that its appearance and poster composition are exactly the same as those of HUAWEI Pura X Max! The new phone features a “wide-proportion” body, and even the hand-held posture has been accused of completely plagiarizing Huawei. This highly anticipated new foldable phone is expected to be priced at over HK$10,000.
Xiaomi will release its new flagship folding phone Xiaomi 18 Fold on September 7. However, a recently leaked promotional image caused a huge response. Netizens discovered that the new phone’s “mid-folding” wide-proportion shape and even the composition of the poster perfectly collided with the HUAWEI Pura X Max launched in April. It was accused of plagiarizing Huawei’s design in all aspects.
According to the leaked pictures, the dark red back and horizontal lens module of Xiaomi 18 Fold are strikingly similar to the HUAWEI Pura X Max. What is even more controversial is that the hand gestures and layout of the two mobile phones in the promotional images are almost identical. In terms of appearance specifications, both models feature a horizontal width ratio close to that of A4 paper. Xiaomi 18 Fold is equipped with a 7.58-inch internal screen, while Huawei has a 7.7-inch internal screen. Although Xiaomi claims that its extremely narrow four-sided design improves the feel, the overall appearance cannot escape the suspicion of plagiarism.
Apart from the appearance controversy, the hardware specifications of Xiaomi 18 Fold have attracted much attention. The new phone will be equipped with the self-developed flagship SoC “Xuanjie O3” for the first time and will be equipped with a new generation of LPDDR6 memory. In terms of battery life, it has a built-in battery of up to 6,000mAh and supports 67W wired fast charging. The camera part has been upgraded, equipped with an optical three-lens system supported by Leica, covering a wide-angle main lens, an ultra-wide-angle and a high-magnification periscope telephoto lens. In contrast, the HUAWEI Pura X Max, which is accused of being copied, uses Kirin 9030 Pro chip and 5300mAh battery. Xiaomi seems to be more aggressive in terms of hardware parameters.
Xiaomi 18 Fold is expected to be officially launched in China on September 7. According to market news, this high-end business foldable machine with the highest positioning is priced very high, with the starting price expected to be about 12,000 yuan (equivalent to about 13,200 Hong Kong dollars).
