Apple CarPlay is about to usher in a new wave of feature upgrades. With iOS 27 expected to be launched in September, CarPlay will not only add the new Siri AI and exclusive Siri App, but also has recent support for third-party app updates, including MLB baseball, Meta AI and Storm Radar weather services, allowing CarPlay to gradually expand from a car system mainly focused on navigation and music to entertainment, artificial intelligence and real-time information services.
First, MLB has updated the iPhone App to further enhance the CarPlay experience. Users can browse ongoing and upcoming games directly in the car, select a designated event and listen to the radio channel of their favorite team; during the game, the CarPlay screen will also simultaneously display scores and important event information. In addition, if users do not want to see the results of the game in advance, they can also avoid “explosion” by hiding the score settings.
The second update is that Meta AI starts to support CarPlay. After adding Meta AI, the lineup of third-party AI chat tools on CarPlay becomes more complete, currently including services such as ChatGPT, Perplexity and Grok, allowing iPhone users to use more AI tools directly through the car interface.
The third new app is Storm Radar launched by The Weather Channel. In addition to displaying the local weather, it can also switch satellite images, radar, clouds, rainfall and other information on the map. Combined with the navigation function, it provides destination weather, estimated arrival time and weather changes along the way. The system also supports automatic re-planning of routes and real-time weather warnings while driving.
As for the upcoming iOS 27, Apple is expected to further strengthen CarPlay, including an upgraded version of Siri AI, Siri conversation record synchronization and other functions, to further enhance the integration of iPhone and vehicles.
In addition, Volvo has recently added CarPlay spatial audio support to three of its SUVs. Apple Music and Apple Podcasts can bring a more three-dimensional sound experience through Dolby Atmos.
