Google officially started pushing Android 17 today (17th), with Pixel users taking the lead in upgrading. A total of 21 models are on the upgrade list. Google said that other Android brands will also launch relevant updates in 2026.
However, not all the new features announced by Google on Android Show last month have been launched with this update, and some new features still need to wait for subsequent updates.
New features: App floating bubbles, screen reaction videos
One of the most anticipated new features of Android 17 this time is the introduction of the new “App Bubbles”. Users only need to long press the App icon to open it in the form of a floating window. Although many Android brands have already provided similar functions, this is the first time that Google has incorporated them into the Android native system.
Google has also specially optimized for large-screen devices, adding a dedicated Bubble Bar (bubble toolbar) on foldable phones and tablets, which is permanently displayed at the bottom of the screen to make multitasking operations more convenient.

In addition, Android 17 also features the Screen Reactions function. When recording the screen, users can simultaneously record their own selfie videos, which is convenient for making reaction videos common to game live broadcasts, teaching or social platforms.
Folding phone users will also get a more complete gaming experience. When the device is unfolded, the lower half of the screen can be used as a virtual game controller, while the upper half is dedicated to displaying the game screen and supports native controller button reconfiguration. However, although this feature has been announced, the actual push still needs to wait for several more months.
As for the much-anticipated Gemini Intelligence AI function, it was not launched simultaneously with this Android 17 update. Google has announced that it will be available to some high-end devices later this summer.
