According to information revealed in the program code, Apple is about to strengthen the anti-theft mechanism of the iPhone. Even if the phone is taken away while it is unlocked, users do not need to worry about important data being leaked immediately.
At present, Apple has used mechanisms such as Find My iPhone, “Enable Lock”, and “Stolen Device Protection” to allow consumers to remotely lock the device to prevent the leakage of internal data or the modification of the Apple ID. However, there is currently no way to prevent the phone from being stolen while it is unlocked.
Foreign media “9to5mac” discovered through digging into the code that Apple plans to further strengthen the anti-theft mechanism to improve this flaw. It will use the accelerometer inside the iPhone and the physical distance from the paired Apple Watch, as well as consider whether there is a familiar WiFi network nearby, geographical location and other factors to determine the moment when the device is taken away, and then automatically lock the iPhone to prevent thieves from using it.
In addition, iPhone will also judge that if the anti-theft mechanism is triggered in an unfamiliar location, the system will take the most stringent protection measures, not only locking the device, but also rejecting any access requests.
This feature is currently still in the development stage, and it is not yet certain when Apple will launch it and how it will operate. However, through a stricter anti-theft mechanism, it can be ensured that even if the iPhone is unfortunately robbed, the user’s sensitive information does not have to worry about being leaked.
