Google announced earlier that it will bring cross-platform file sharing capabilities to its QuickShare, allowing Android devices to transfer files to and from AirDrop in the Apple ecosystem. Recently, the manufacturer has officially implemented the relevant updates and announced the latest compatible list of smartphones that support this feature.
In the list, in addition to Samsung, which was the first to receive support earlier, this update further covers a variety of flagship models from different brands, marking that the barrier between mobile phone transfers between the two major system camps has been officially broken, greatly improving the convenience of daily use.
According to the latest information released by Google, the supported high-end model lineup covers multiple mainstream brands. These include Samsung’s Galaxy S25 and S24 series, and various folding screen mobile phones such as Z TriFold, Z Fold7, Z Flip7, Z Fold6 and Z Flip6. Other brand flagships are also on the list, such as the OPPO Find X8 series and Find N6, HONOR’s Magic 8 Pro and Magic V6, and the OnePlus 15. As for Google’s own product line, the recently launched Pixel 8a has also been successfully shortlisted, further enhancing the competitiveness of this phone.
However, there is a special phenomenon in the list, that is, the flagship Pixel 8 series at the same time as the Pixel 8a is currently not included in the support list. In response to this situation, it is widely speculated that Google is only arranging software update schedules in the order of launch of each model at this stage, and is not subject to technical difficulties. It is expected that Pixel 8 and other older flagship models from the same manufacturer will gradually gain support for this cross-platform mutual transmission function in later system updates.
Although this cross-platform file transfer technology brings great convenience to users, not all Android phones on the market will eventually benefit. According to technology analyst Max Weinbach, to achieve interoperability between QuickShare and AirDrop, the prerequisite is that the hardware level must support the underlying adjustments of specific network protocols. Currently, mobile phones equipped with high-end flagship chips can basically meet relevant hardware requirements. However, some entry-level or even mid-range priced mobile phones are likely to be limited by the specifications of their built-in network chips.
