I have the Google Pixel 9 Pro here, and in today’s video I’ll be showing you how to downgrade this device from Android 16. . .back down to Android 15.
This will work for all Google Pixel smartphones and tablets, though, so it’s not limited to the Pixel 9 series at all.
If your Android 15 firmware is listed on Google’s website here, then you can downgrade back to that version.
That way, if you have noticed some random bugs with the latest stable update. . .or maybe you ran into a massive battery drain issue. . .then this should get you back to the version of Android you’re more familiar with.

Requirements
For us to complete this guide, we first need to have some things setup ahead of time.
As an example, we cannot use Google’s Android Flash Tool without having our bootloader unlocked.
So, if your Google Pixel bootloader is currently locked. . .then you will need to unlock it first.
But no need to worry, you can relock the bootloader when you’re back to Android 15.
Doing that will erase all of the data you have on your phone. So be sure to backup your important stuff ahead of time.
But even if your bootloader is already unlocked, downgrading will require the data to be wiped since it’s a different version of Android.
So everyone will want to backup your data now, before you proceed here.
You’re also going to need to have USB Debugging Mode enabled. Which is done via the hidden Developer Options menu. If you aren’t familiar with how this is done, then no need to worry as I’ll have those guides linked below this video as well. And you can find all of these links in the pinned comment here, so that it’s easy for everyone to find.
And since we’re using the Android Flash Tool, you will need a compatible browser, like Chrome or Edge.
You could do this via the command prompt. . .if that’s something you would be interested in.
Downgrading to Android 15
With all of that done and out of the way, you’re now ready to begin the downgrading process.
We start this by first connecting the Google Pixel smartphone or tablet to the PC with a USB cable
You’ll probably see that it says No Devices Available
So we’re going to click on the Add New Device button here
And you should find your Google Pixel smartphone in this list.
If not, then there’s likely some USB related issue.
With the device connected, your page will then look like this.
And we need to select the build that we want to install.
So we’re going to click on the More Releases link down here.
You’ll see Android 15 in the list, so let’s click on that.
And then we select which build we want to install.
Just make sure you click the little pencil icon right here.
And we need to make sure the Wipe Device option is selected.
And we want to make sure the Force Flash All Partitions option is selected.
You can choose to relock the bootloader from here, if you’d like.
I won’t be doing that today, but this will be up to you.
When you’re ready, click on the blue Install Build button from here
And now we play the waiting game.
And when you’re back into the Android OS, go check the About Phone section to make sure you’re running Android 15 again.
conclusion
Now, downgrading to an older version of Android is not something that I generally recommend. You miss out on important security updates, critical bug fixes, and even those new features.
But it’s those first two that tend to be really important.
So while I understand why a lot of you folks have decided to downgrade from Android 16 back down to Android 15.
Maybe in a few months when you are ready to give the update another chance.

Android 16 is quite possibly the worst update ive ever had, i can no longer call people a hard reset did NOTHING. THE UPDATE SUCKS!!!! BRICKED MY 6 MONTH OLD SAMSUNG ULTRA.

I downgrade my pixel android, a16 to a14. I didn't know Google pixel have anti rollback protection in the May security patch. So I just triggered the arb and bricked my phone.
