Already have a laptop hp Pavillion with i5 11th gen rtx 3050, but due to weight and storage problems need another one which will be easy to carry to office and will do small works done like 2 layers reels edit, lightroom photo editing, preparing ppts and words like light work, so what should i do should i get the 512gb variant [worth 74k with all discounts from croma] or get the 256gb variant [worth 65k with all discounts from croma] along with a seagate 2tb ssd worth rs 10k-11k with offers?

I got the finger reader version of the Neo. As an iPad Pro lover, and certainly not a power user, I have found that things like YouTube, Apple Music, x, Reddit, etc work much better than on the Mac. Web experience just not as good as the app versions on iPad. This has been disappointing to me. I am thinking that unless the upcoming new software this week is not a ton better, I will sell the Neo and get another IPad Pro. I currently have the 3rd gen iPad [ro and it still works like a champ. Just can’t update anymore. Peace. ❤

Honestly, I’m an 8th grader and my dad got me my first MacBook, which was the MacBook Neo in Indigo when it came out, and I have absolutely no issue with it, even though it is the 256GB version.
I’m a finance student and I use this and it runs excel, python, and 3 work tabs, a tab for twitter and a tab for youtube with no problems

The reason that there is only one ram configuration is because the a series chips don’t have different configuration options for the same processor. The a18 pro only comes in 8 gb of ram, same as the a19 pro with 12 gb. It the regular a 19 only has 8.

The recent rise in RAM prices is indeed driven in part by the rapid development of AI and the resulting increase in demand for memory. However, that is not the reason why the MacBook Neo has 8 GB of RAM.
The 8 GB configuration is a consequence of the A18 Pro’s design. Apple used an existing chip that, as a SoC, was designed with 8 GB of memory. This is one of the reasons they can sell the device at such a low price.
If Apple wanted to change the amount of memory, it would have to redesign the chip and manufacture a new version, which would significantly increase production costs.

Love watching Neo videos despite I'm not into Macs… the product introduced me into trying Windows Arm and I then trying to get one myself… get one cheaper than the Neo and got almost the same disability as the Neo (8gb or RAM and no backlit keyboard) … but the performance is somewhat smooth… been happy with my purchase and having a laptop without fans is indeed an ease of mind…

I've never owned a MacBook, or any laptop. I've owned an iMac, served me well for a little over a decade. Right now I have my PC and my two iPads(iPad mini and 13" M5 Pro). Honestly, I could probably allocate nearly all my computer time to my iPads since I use them for almost all the same things I use my PC for but with the unique Pencil-to-Paper-like experience, which is the best thing for me regarding my 2D animation projects.

I have the base model with 256gb storage and no fingerprint reader, and this thing SINGS. I do simple but audio/video/keying effect video work in FCP, I do Affinity suite design work, I do website building, and general usage. I have not come close to ever worrying about whether I have enough power/ram to do work with. And MacOS 27 is god tier in terms of both looks, performance and the overhaul in spotlight/SiriAI is so nice. Battery life is great too. On top of that, the keyboard and trackpad are just industry standard for a reason, and this cheap (well, cheaper when I got it) MacBook feels as premium as any other model. And, I actually prefer the physical trackpad, mostly because it has the same overall feeling, but sometimes the haptic one has this slight little delay or "quantization" where a press isn't registered unless you're pressing with a certain pressure, and I know you can set that pressure but it just feels unnatural. This new physical trackpad design is the best ever imo. It never has the pressure issue since it's mechanical, and they built it with the pin in the middle so that it still has close to the same feeling as the haptic one in terms of being able to press anywhere.
This became my first MacBook. I've had it for about a week now, and I absolutely love it. I can't wait until Golden Gate hits.

People need to do research! If they did they would know apple does not use ram modules the ram is on the silicon thats why you cant upgrade them after you buy a MacBook. So the ram prices do not affect macs ad they font use the modules made by ram manufacturers! And apple needs to be called out on this!!

I carry a $6,500 Pro Rugged 13 i7/64GB/4TB for field work and the $599 Neo. Some might say apples and oranges, but I love and prefer the Neo.
Hey Tech Dad… Got The 512 back a few months ago at the lower price and am more that happy with it! Admittedly though I am only using it to maybe 10% of its (my ability) as I am a 70 year old Windows 7-Pro Guy way behind the "Tech-Curve"
Don't forget that Apple also offers a 10% discount at the Apple Store for Military Vets. I bought the base Indigo on the March 2026 intro day for $574.04 tax included. However, Apple would not extend the Educator discount despite the FACT that I am a retired Public School teacher with an active certification and multiple previous Ed. discount purchases. Home school "teachers" with no certification or documentation are OK, tho…..weird.
I bet next year the $799 model will have a backlit keyboard.
My wife got this issued to her at her school as an upgrade this year. She was coming from an M1 MacBook Air and honestly, I’m not sure it was much of an upgrade. The one thing she was upset about (first world issue) was she lost the Touch ID as they gave her the base version. Having to type in that 16 digit password they make them update every year is intense. But I think the best thing she said was the staff had labeled these as an “Apple Chromebook” and I think it’s probably the most accurate explanation of the device. With that said, I think what you said was exactly what they were marketing to as this is a great option for students and would be a more high end replacement for the Chromebook.
It's been my understanding that the reason the Neo shipped with 8gb of ram was because it was using binned A18 Pro chips. The iPhone 16 pro came with 8gigs of ram on the board – the Neo is essentially an iPhone in a laptop chassis. Now we might see more ram if they decide to use binned A19 chips.
Prior to the release of the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, NO iPhone EVER had more than 8 GB of RAM. These two devices and the iPhone Air have 12 GB RAM and the A19 Pro SoC. Another factor is the limited USB-C capability. This is a limitation of the use of an iPhone chip, iPhones never had more than one USB/Lightning port. Quite clever to be able to add another albeit slower USB 2.0 speed port to the thing. Lest you think USB 2 is only for charging or low-power peripherals, non "Pro/Air" iPhones have the same connectivity, a 480 Mbps USB 2.0 data transfer rate through their USB-C ports.
While there's no Touch ID on the base model, if you have a Touch ID keyboard, the feature will work.
The A18 chip is a "stacked die" where the RAM is literally on top of the CPU itself. They're one chip. There's only an 8GB model because offering anything else would require retooling the chip itself. The next Neo model with the A19 Pro will only offer 12GB of memory for the same reason.
