I last used an iPad in university more than 10 years ago and file management was the reason I stopped. Have they fixed the main problem which is that files live in an app only? Sometimes I want the edited file to be saved back to the file system where I opened it from!
So, there is no way to safely remove an external HD. That makes it almost useless!!

I read that a lot of other people have file moving problems with the current file manager, can you focus on this better because it's too high-level right now.

It looks very nice and I see the improvements they made, but files on my iPads are always a mess. (I‘m an iPad user since 2013)
My biggest issue with the iPadOS file management is when I’m looking for a specific file. I entered the name of the file and iPadOS gives me dozens of results while omitting the actual file I was looking for. I have watched a few videos on YouTube to try to find a solution for that but haven’t found anything yet.

Can I turn off the AI feature?
Have they finally fixed the issue where when you download or save a file (eg a Word doc or PDF) and then want to upload it to a website using Safari, it can take several minutes before the file manager is able to find it? Until that is fixed using the iPad for real work is pretty much a joke.
Why doesn’t Apple let us resize the thumbnails in the Files app!!!!! 🤬🤬🤬
The iPad wants to index the external drive and it can slow it down a lot. Also gets super hot. 👎🏻
The current problem I’m having with transferring files on my iPad or iPhone using an external drive doesn’t currently show any sorta progress like how long will it take in any sorta increments.

Thank you for the update. I have an M4 iPad Pro with 2 GB hard drive, so I don’t need to move anything off of it. But what I would like is something like Finder instead of a folder, is there anyway to mimic Finder with a new operating system?
Have they finally fixed the “Content Unavailable” issue when using a bunch of files, let’s say from a video shoot? This issue has alone made the iPad very unreliable and useless for my use case. This issue was still from 2018 and no fix to this day. I doubt Apple would ever admit to the issue, but maybe they secretly fixed it in the background?

I’ve been hearing iPadOS is finally fixed for the past 10 years. There’s nothing to fix, it won’t ever be as good as a mac in doing macOS tasks.
iPads should be good for gaming and media consumption, that’s it.
cloud drive seems to be a problem with the file system currently. hopefully that also had improved
Is background activity like downloading or uploading via third part apps , like google drive , allowed in ios27/ipados28 ?

I have moving stuff off my external hard drive to OneDrive, I have the Beta operating system, it is transferring things ridiculously fast, files like Photos and Videos. I find though if you try to do to much at a time it has a hard time keeping up. I use iCloud but marjoirty of everything is OneDrive, if Apple had 1T option for iCloud, Id probably get rid of Microsoft office!
Hey Mike! You’re a connoisseur of Ipad and I need advice. I’m a second year student at a uni and am thinking of getting the ipad pro as my primary device. My work consists of a lot of reading, typing (essays, reports etc.), making presentations, researching and taking notes. I don’t need any specific software and I’m leaning towards the ipad because of its versatility and compactness, but I’m scared I’ll regret not getting a macbook. What should I do?

So for years Apple just deliberately made transfer speeds slow for no reason on devices they sell for up to $2000.
It’s just too little too late at this point. I tried, I really did. But the ram management is just absurdly bad. Safari will soft crash while you’re using it and reload the page or need an app restart—and this is WITH multitasking not allowed. So that’s literally iOS saying keep tons of ram on the OS even if the app you’re using needs more. Let it crash.
Macs from 10 years ago work better than that. It’s such a scam.
