    My original iPad is second generation so I waited a bit to upgrade. My original still works https://www.youtube.com/post/UgkxUGaHtKW8MwCql2fPyIm9-ftTqSMzKFFA , but the battery is bad and won't stay charged so it always has to be plugged into a power source. The new 10th generation was a great bargain for Prime Day that I couldn't pass up. It was easy enough to set up: everything came down from iCloud with no issues.

    Warning… I tried doing this and my 2018 iPad Pro (which was having major charging issues) was bricked. Apple Store tech couldn’t get it to talk to the Mac to get out of recovery mode – I’m guessing the charging port is toast. Only option was to turn it in for a $800 replacement. Needless to say, beware.

    Here are the Steps for people to follow exactly
    First plug in device makes sure it registers on itunes to ensure you PC is communicating with ipad.

    1. Press Volume Up once, Volume Down once then
    2. Press and hold power button until screen turns off
    3. The second the screen turns off, press and hold the volume down while still holding power button exactly after 4 seconds slide your finger of the power button and keep holding volume down until u hear on windows beep sound for a new device connected or mac the prompt from itunes will pop up your screen on ipad will remain black
