When a vehicle's OBD2 readiness monitor says N/A, it means the specific test or system is Not Applicable or Not Available for your exact car model
Wrong. The montiors that say N/A (not applicable) because the vehicle's computer does not support that specific test, it literally does NOT exist on the car 6:14
This does not work for all permanent codes, for example DPF lockout codes where there is no longer a DPF fault.
How would you know if you need to update the computer?
Man i have a 2005 1500hd that failed smog. I put a new battery in about 2-3 weeks prior had no idea said Systems weren’t ready. Had a check engine light took to mechanic said it was the Evap solenoid. Replaced it, now the Cat system is good, O2 good, Evap not ready, O2 heater not ready failed my retest. Have driven about 300 miles street/Highway done the GM recommended drive cycle about 3-4 times and i can not get the o2 heater or Evap monitors ready. At this point just hoping those who tried stealing the truck 4 times last year come back. I checked all O2 sensors wiring sensors all look good like they been replaced before. i am at whits end. I now officially hate this truck. Have had two others same year with zero issues.
You did not say how to get rid of the code that was useless
In order to remove permanent codes you have to disconnect a vehicles battery/batteries and hold the positive and negative together for a short period of time (Let’s just say five minutes) to completely drain power from the ecu and wipe it clean. Depending on the type of issue, the code may come back on startup.

I have a po456 on my 2014 dodge charger Se I replaced the Evap solenoid and emission detector and erase the code ! I pops up engine light every few days it’s driving me crazy

I have a 2012 Buick LaCrosse that has a permanent P0496 code i replaced everything that has to do with the code going on 7 months no more check engine light but the code will not clear
If you have an issue with the heated circuit and it doesn’t go away check the fuse I had to replace that
Is a confirmed status a Permanent code? and can it be cleared by an OBD2 for Kia Sportage 2024, note there is no check engine light on car dashboard ? cod P0404.
Ok I see one time I have codes in my truck. And like you said I can clearem with the scanner. So I do the driving process I drive probably for a about 150miles minimum in 2weeks and the permanent codes cleared himself

Please help on PO420 stubborn already replace both top n bottom catalytic including both O2 sensor bank1 n bank2. Reason fail is there’s a leak❓❓don’t know where’s coming from❓do multiple drive cycle but still PO420 looks stored PERMANENTLY n with Evap still there. Please give me a Legit Solution ✌🏼👍🏼✌🏼

I have a 2016 Ford F150 with a 3.5 Turbo. I had the catalytic converters replaced two years ago. The check engine light still comes on. Last year I had to have the exhaust manifolds replaced because they were leaking. The engine light continued to come on and I am still getting a P0420 code. I finally got an OBD reader and just started clearing the code. I recently took it in to get it smogged. I live in Utah so it is required here. It failed the smog test because it showed I had cleared the codes. Yesterday I replaced the 02 sensor for bank one because that was where the code was coming from. I replaced the sensor and after 120 miles the engine light came back on again. I went to Autozone today to get a new air filter. I was speaking with one of the associates there and he told me I needed to perform a BMS reset because even though I had replaced the sensor the code is still in the vehicle memory. I purchased a Zurich ZR15S code reader hoping I could erase the code with it. I tried that and it is still showing my code on the reader. Any suggestions?
