In 2026, I’m hoping to slowly build a better setup—maybe a Mac Mini and an Apple display someday—so I can learn and work more effectively.
A pity M2 Ultra isn’t in the chart.
But the M1 supports TB. ❤
No keyboard light and 8G RAM is deal breaker for me.
I don’t understand. Yeah, the M1 chip was VERY powerful, but that was 5 generations ago.
Of course an entry level laptop in 2026 will outperform an entry level laptop from 5 years ago.
Unfortunately it is the same weight as the MacBook Air and almost the same size. They should've made it a 12 inch screen or less.
Just ran geekbench on my 17 pro max and scored a 3903 single core and a 10112 multi core so not too bad 😊

Ok, so what would have made more sense is a laptop dock for the iphone.
Kinda warming up to the Neo… I thot Apple would keep it too low powered since it's just to compete with Chromebooks 😜 but seems like it can give the MacBook Airs a run for it's money. Look forward to the full review and benchmarks. 🙂

Honestly this is great news! I was waiting for a cheapish and usable macbook for a long time and I really dont want to buy used M1. I think I will buy myself Neo as I really dont need anything more powerful than M1 anyways and RAM is enough.
too bad it's too thick and too heavy, it's 310grams heavier than the previous macbook 12", and probly don't have as nice a screeen and sound.
My s26 ultra outperforms it and has 12 gigs of ram so whats the big deal. This is not impressive. I'm sure the ssd is very slow and ram speed is slow.

Apple silicon is once again the star of the show. Apart from that, the MacBook product line up is becoming very boring despite impressive technical performance, because closed standards ultimately limit your options unless you are a content creator or code for the Apple ecosystem. I think the MacBook Neo will meet many peoples basic computer needs if you can live within the claustrophobic Apple ecosystem. It offers impressive performance and build quality for its price, but limited port availability and capability may be an issue for some, and it could become an Apple "limited" intelligence device over time due to only having 8 GB RAM. I would have bought a Neo if it came with at least12 GB RAM, but instead will give it a miss.
The Neo, in reality for basic computing, browsing and word processing at that price is likely perfect for a fair amount of people.
I have to order Max, 128 GB of Ram, 2-4 TB storage. 18 cpu, 40 gpu. Nano screen. 2 TB is $5200 I believe.
Guessing Neo gen 2 will have 16gb in 2027 or so.
I would definitely pay $100 more for a 19 pro chip. The CEO said the only reason it didn't was supply issues…
Supply constraints from TSMC’s end meant that Apple couldn’t secure sufficient A19 Pro shipments to use in the MacBook Neo

I think the neo is fine for what it’s meant to do! I’ve got an M1 with eight gigs of RAM and it does just fine for its intended mission. If you think you need more ram, get a MacBook Air.
the fact that the M5 is as fast as a 5070 laptop GPU and has 128gb of ram is insane. We're almost at the point where you can run video models on local laptops. seriously impressive
Big dissapointment…. New king M5 MAX with price from universe is RTX5070 laptop GPU performance… LOL RTX5070 laptop is 2 years old lower-end GPU actually.
TL;DR: AirM3 is better than Neo. Pricewise.
I love Apple laptops. The interface of macintosh looks way better than windows.

How does it fare in real-world applications though? Synthetic benchmarks are nice and all, but they don't pay the bills!
Neo will be great for a lot of people but 8GB of memory will make it much slower than any other MacBook with 16GB or more for anyone with more than fairly basic needs.
The CPU performance isn't the issue. The limitation to 8gb Ram is.
