Right Now – I can't even buy an M4 Mac Mini. Apple is telling me I can buy, BUT it wouldn't be available until August 2026. I guess I will wait for the M5 Mac Mini (hopefully in June 2026).

You should never store photo archives on an SSD. For safety, two copies should be stored on hard disk drives.

64 M4 mini pro, 16/20. 1TB. worksgreat, have had it since it first came out , long term user. . running long sessions (> than one minute) of AI models , compiling, calculations, etc) it will throttle about 15% do to heat , get all the cores to 100% utility, cpu or gpu, and its a toaster even at max fan RPM 4900. and additional throttling. , so the M5 is faster , clock speed, unless they can get the heat out not sure its going to be much better than the M4. other than single cpu programs , BUT, who knows . Lots of people say they never hear the fan, meaningless unless you are watching core speed s and all core temps , to tell if it throttling.

you can’t order the m4 mini anymore. m4 pro is still available but it takes 10-12 weeks no matter what ram configuration.
I’m still convinced Apple are going to hang fire until the autumn to push out both the updated Mac Mini and Mac Studio with M6 SoC’s.
I just got delivered with 64gb mac mini with base M4 pro 10 days ago, ordered it in early March, using it as a workstation and operating via universal control over thunderbolt 4 cable from my base M4 pro macbook pro. With mini i am running gemma e4b and gemma 26b moe both in 8 bit quant model. It's a good machine, I would say that sustained 26b models makes it hot…

I have absolutely no use whatsoever for on-device AI. The only AI I use is Gemini.

Please let it be $499 or $599 max for 512/16gb. That's more than enough, especially with M5 chip. The M4 (I have this one) is already pretty insane. Wish I got 512 on it instead lol 😂
