Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy.
Note: This game does not run without a fix via CrossOver as of the test date. It throws a “Shader Model 6.7 not supported” error and quits.
TIMELINE:
00:00 Test Setup
00:11 Gameplay (Chapter 10, Frame Gen Off)
06:00 Gameplay (Inferno, Frame Gen On)
09:42 Results Summary
PERFORMANCE TEST:
Setup: MacBook Pro M5 Pro (48GB 18CPU / 20GPU), macOS 26.6.2 Tahoe, CrossOver Preview 20260821, GPTK4 Beta 2, D3DMetal, MSync.
Settings: 1440p, Medium Graphics & High Textures, DLLS Quality (MetalFX 960p), Frame Gen Off & On.
Estimated overall performance based on Chapter 10:
Frame Gen Off: 45 to 80 FPS, estimated average about 60 FPS.
Frame Gen On: 75 to 120 FPS.
Performance in this game varies a lot, sometimes by just moving the camera while standing still. A section of Chapter 10 is used for overall estimates. Most other sections have similar or higher performance.
There is an outlier section (Inferno / Chapter 2), where framerates are lower. This section is tested in the gameplay, but it is not representative of the overall performance.
MAC MINI M4 16GB Test: The performance on a Mac Mini M4 ranges from 30 to 50 FPS at 1080p with Low graphics and DLSS Quality (MetalFX 720p). However, the game starts with a delay (up to 3 minutes of a black screen), and has a sudden crash after a while. It could be due to 16GB of RAM, or macOS 27 Beta. In summary, I could not get the game to run reliably on 16GB M4, and the visuals/experience was lacking during gameplay.
ISSUES:
Since the DirectX Shader Model 6.7 is not actually supported, there could be some ghosting (visible in the gameplay), or other rendering issues.
Some scenes in the game can get very dark.
The game may not render any video on HDR/ProMotion displays (only black screen with sound).
The game may have a delayed start (black screen until the first game screen appears).
FIX FOR “Shader Model 6.7” ERROR ON START:
DirectX 12 Shader Model 6.7 is not supported by D3DMetal (yet), therefore the game quits with an error dialog on start.
Thanks to “MacGameVideoFix (GitHub)”, an easy-to-apply fix is available for this game. Once the fix is applied, the game also runs with regular CrossOver 26.3.
MacGameVideoFix is an open-source app that has fixes for some other games as well: https://github.com/MathiasKowoll/MacGameVideoFix
There are two ways to apply the fix:
1. Using MacGameVideoFix app: GitHub site has excellent info on what the app is, what it does, etc. The app has options to auto-fix some of the games that have issues running via CrossOver.
2. Apply the fix manually for this game: Manual application of the fix involves renaming an existing DLL in the game folder, and copying another DLL with the same name to the game folder.
– Download & extract “fixes… tar.gz” file from the GitHub releases page. Only one DLL file will be needed: “NvCloth_x64-resonance.dll”.
– Go into game folder, locate existing “NvCloth_x64.dll” file, and rename it to “NvCloth_x64_real.dll”.
– Copy the smaller “NvCloth_x64-resonance.dll” into the game folder and then rename it to “NvCloth_x64.dll”. This file is just a proxy to the renamed original file.
BLACK SCREEN ON PROMOTION/HDR DISPLAYS:
The game auto-enables HDR10 if it detects an HDR display, and this causes the black screen with sound problem on start.
Fix:
– Locate and open graphics settings file: The file name is “ENGINESETTINGS”. It could be under “users/crossover/Appdata/Roaming/gamename” folder, or “users/crossover/Documents/My Games/gamename” folder. Open the settings file with TextEdit or another editor.
– Change “HDR10 1” line to “HDR10 0” if it exists; otherwise, add “HDR10 0” line and save. Once graphics settings are final, this file can be locked to prevent overwrites by the game.
– If the settings file is not created at all, I provided a 1920×1080 HDR Off settings file to start the game on HDR displays. Once you reach the main menu, graphics settings can be adjusted in-game.
