Wrapping up monitor Month with a really nice Apple Studio Display alternative. BenQ isn’t cheap but it brings a lot of quality with a nice panel and really good build quality.

I upgraded my old 1440p to the PD2706U with ergonomic arm. The monitor defaulted to scaling as 1080p… and I was confused why everything was bigger (but very sharp). I scaled it back to "looks like" 1440p and it's okay but not HiDPI. It's been hard to wrap my head around the scaling idea, but now I understand why people have been saying 5K is ideal for macs.
I’d love to know your thoughts on the LG 27GM950B 5K/2K monitor. It runs at 165hz at 5k and you can drop into serious gamer mode with 330hz at 2k resolution for high speed gaming. Also runs HDR 1000 and can even hit 1250 nits peak brightness. On paper it sounds like the perfect display for someone like you and me both. Designer by day, gamer dad by night.
If you were me, an architect using pro programs, especially Revit, which is a 3D modeling program that I need to use Parallels to use windows because my Macbook Pro M4 Max can't run Revit without a windows desktop…. would you choose the Studio Display (two of them) or what? I have two of these Benq monitors but I don't like the matte. They're about to be returned to Amazon. The only other options I would consider is the Kuycon since its the only other glossy display. But if price is not an issue, would you get anything other than two Studio Displays?
I hope monitor companies come out with Square monitors something like 16:18

I used an apple Studio Display for many moons, great and a s I worked in print only in a controlled environment for complete accuracy and everything was proofed at printers we rarely had issues. Todays world is more about how brand loyal you are BenQ make good monitors Apple malke good monitors very expensive and need a upgrade to stand, but whatever you do you can find the tools just maybe be diverse, I remember when we had G4 Macs and changed to Pcs everyone had a fit, then after a week normality was back as you live in the programme.

You should definitely check out the KTC H27P3 5K! Made for Mac and the price is the best part, $527.99. I got mine recently and so far everything has been great, the difference between 1440p and 5k is mind blowing, and for the price the build quality is not that bad. The display colors seem to be the same as the mac and has I believe 99% DCI P3 Coverage. I think for the budget creators is a great option to start your working journey you could give it a try! 🙂
LG 27GM950 B is coming out on 5/3 with the same panel as the Apple Studio XDR, with 2304 dimming zones and 5K at 165Hz.
If only they offer glossy version of that monitor. 😭🥹 i am not fond of matte screen.
the "standard" resolution of a mac IS NOT 1440p wtf are you talking about? there's a difference between scaling and resolution/pixel density. have you ever licked on advanced > show resolution as list > list all resolutions? there you can see the real resolution of the mac.

I bought 3 2026 Apple Studio Display XDR's – I have no regrets
Are you aware that all those ambient pastel colors in your editing room negatively affect color perception? I assume you don’t edit images with those room lights on. Better to have neutral gray walls and black or gray clothing.

I just purchased a 24 inch 4K monitor at the Goodwill Store from Dell and connected it to my Macbook Air via the Thunderbolt port to the Display Port and I was very surprised by the 1440p quality of this monitor. It had 188ppi so I got Retina quality, but while the 4K monitor does not display as sharply as the 5K, the difference was very hard to tell. I guess the 24 inch size helps with the ppi, but I do not feel the need to upgrade to a 5K monitor to get that sharp Retina display. I can even select 3008 x 1692, and it is still as sharp. I set it back to 2560 x 1440 so the text is not too small, but in terms of clarify and sharpness, they both work great. No visible distortions on the texts. I did not remember 4K being this good for the Mac, so if you have a 4K monitor to test your Mac on, try it before buying a 5K monitors. You might be very satisfied at 4K. And it is sooo much cheaper at 4K. If you try it and you cannot stand it, then get the 5K at $800 to $1,700.
BenQ has another one coming out MA270S, which is glossy.

I bought this screen before (directly from BenQ Europe) but I would say the default color settings are quite different from apple devices. The color is more on yellowish side. And the anti-reflection coating does considerably affect the viewing angle range. With a price tag of around 800 euro, I think it is better to find other options (like the newly released MA 5k glossy version) or pay double to get the Apple Studio Display.

If this existed 4 years ago when I bought my Studio Display I easily would have gotten this instead. As someone who works in print I can def confirm I've been surprised how much more dull my colors were in print when they looked great on the glossy display.
Im actually considering having a BenQ monitor to do better photography work. The samsung one i have is nice, but doesnt reach the adobe RBG that I need

Jumping in to say that "mac compatibility" includes 4K resolution displays just fine – don't get the idea that you need to get a 5K monitor for your mac exclusively. Probably anything that advertises thunderbolt connectivity or USB C DP-Alt mode will be properly recognized by macOS and will look just fine.
