So what do you think? Is Apple gonna turn Photomator into Aperture and release it with Creator Studio? Or will they just keep it as Photomator?
Just stumbled across this video today (3 weeks post WWDC), and sadly, you prediction did not surface at WWDC. That said, it's 100% true that a top-notch RAW photo-editor / Lightroom competitor is the missing piece to Creator Studio. I still have hopes that the "Aperture" (or whatever they call it) announcement will come when macOS27 officially hits the streets this Fall. I think converting/enhancing Photomator is in the works, but it's just taking longer than anticipated, or perhaps is delayed until this latest version of enhanced Apple Intelligence is released. Until then, I will continue to use Capture One as my Lightroom competitor (I detest Adobe). Frankly, C1 is a truly sophisticated catalog+editor and has way more capability than I actually use, but if Apple comes back with a new Aperture, I'll make the switch in a heartbeat.
So…. Apple did not bring Aperture back.

WWDC came and went— how slack is your jaw? Seriously, tho, I wish they would bring Aperture back. I’ve been using Photoshop and Lightroom for 6 years and still struggle on a weekly basis.l

I want Aperture to come back. Would love to have it back. But saldy not happening this year. I agree with everything you said as to why Apple should and (hopefully) will bring it back.
I think the biggest hold up for them right now is trying to get a solid iOS version working. They can build off the old Mac OS program, but its a 100% start from scratch for iOS. They need to have a 100% seamless experience between the two.
So I paid for Aperture years ago and expect them to give it to me for no charge since I already bought it

I wish I had the confidence that Apple will bring back Aperture, however, I'm not sold. It was an amazing editing software package and I truly hope you are correct in your assumption :-).
Apple often make poor product integration. A HUGE fail is passing audio back and forth between Final Cut and Logic Pro. It is near impossible!
So easy using Adobe.
I'd buy presets and plugins on a APPLE market place but I would never again pay a subscription to anyone. Open Source is strong enough these days to have me change hardware if I feel trapped or limited with free or one time purchase products.
I think Aperture was a point in Apple time when "It just works" and was the perfect balance of form and function that they used to excel at. They have a different mindset now. Would Aperture still be able to find that balance?
I switched to Linux about a year ago. Took some experimenting to find the right apps and learn the workflow, but Digikam for the DAM, RAWTherapee for RAW file editing and TurboPrint for printing take me back to that balance of form and function where I can concentrate on the photography and being creative, without all the distractions and UI quirks that get in the way of most modern software. And no subscriptions or loss of control or privacy for my digital assets. (I still need a Mac though for my digital Hasselblad, both for Phocus to preserve the Hasselblad colours, and for HBComposer to fix the PDAF banding issue that the CFV 100C has with wide angle lenses on technical cameras. I'm round tripping those files from Linux to Mac and back to Linux.)
I guess we will find out tomorrow.
As much as I loved Aperture and would really really like it back. In its original stage, by the original software designer. My workflow no includes Nitro, from Gentlemen Coders which is run by Nick the orixginal Aperture developer. I will not step over to subscription service!
As a professional photographer, I was using Aperture when it was suddenly abandoned along with any photographers who had committed to the Apple software. I will NEVER trust Apple software ever again. DaVinci Resolve and Affinity V3. Bye bye Apple ~ bye bye Adobe ~ bye bye Avid.

If they require a subscription then it's not worth it, if they offer a new aperture as a perpetually owned purchasable app for the mac, count me interested.

So you criticize Adobe for its subscription, but you agree to Apple's subscription? While limiting yourself to one platform? Seriously? Lol.
I absolutely loved and used aperture in the day and was crushed when it left. I'm not sure I would trust Apple again for a high-end piece of software. If they're giving it away for free I might consider using it again. But the heartache of switching over to another pro app is strong in my mind.
I have Photoshop subscription and I'm not keen on Aperture. They tracked good apps I used before with no alternatives.
It happened before , it will happen again. Apple dumped all their high end users in the shit before, they will do it again. For users of all levels there are better options than Apple or Adobe.

I've never used Aperture, but I discovered Lightroom in 2019 and paid for 1 month because — it was doing things to my old film photos that I could never do before, on any other app. I'm including Photoshop in this, which I was using long before I got into Apple Photos. These film photos were 20 years old from the last days of film, and around 2009 when I think the "Highlights" and "Shadows" feature came out on Apple Photos, I went through the entire set of hundreds of photos, 2 dozen rolls of film from a big event in my life around the new millenium. It was a new landmark in terms of improvements, but they still looked like "film" photos — and if these were professionally done, that would be fine, but these were just tourist-grade! What astonished me another 10 years later, Lightroom was able to pull WAY more quality out of these old scans (which WERE professional, by the way) … now my old "film" photos looked like modern digital photos!! I'm not saying they looked professional, but they DID look like a modern smartphone took a crack at the difficult conditions in bad lighting … and all the other things that make film challenging when you don't follow "the rules".
I'd just rather work with Aperture, but also my iCloud library, you know? Anyway I have a benchmark to test against now.

As the “ApertureExpert” I was pretty upset when they killed it and then when Photos never evolved as promised. I might not go back just out of spite! 😂
If Apple brings back Aperture, I will certainly be cancelling my Adobe subscription. There are also rumours floating around that Capture One Pro might be sold and looking for a new investor. I currently use C1 as my primary RAW Editing program, so maybe Apple will buy C1 and re-skin it as the new version of Aperture! Keeping my finger crossed. Cheers, Keith
I really, really, really wish this was true, But I'm not holding my breath. Aperture was in many ways better than Lightroom, but we had no choice and now Lightroom and Photoshop are just getting so bloated, I mean 3 GB JUST to do on-device AI? WTF and my Lightroom backup is 50GB plus due to the denoise tool adding the data to the catalog.

Will my old Aperture license still work?
I loved Aperture but Apple can’t be trusted to maintain it. When they stopped supporting it I was left having to go through the laborious process of transitioning my photo library to a new platform without any support from Apple. I’ve moved on and don’t foresee going back to Aperture because I don’t trust Apple to continue supporting it after releasing it again.
