Apple and state DMVs (supervision agencies) have announced that the following states will introduce this feature, but the exact timetable has not yet been announced:

Airports where Apple Wallet digital ID cards can be used
At present, the main application scenario of Apple Wallet digital ID card is to use it at TSA security checkpoints in more than 250 airports in the United States. It is limited to domestic flights, and you need to identify the channel marked with the digital ID card.
Since the Apple Wallet ID card is not accepted by law enforcement agencies and its applicability is still limited, you must still carry the physical ID card when going out.

What should I do if there is no support yet? Alternative Apple Wallet Digital Passport
If you live in a state that isn’t already on the list, or if you’re a citizen with a U.S. passport, Apple offers a general plan:
- Principle: Use the method of scanning the chip passport to create a digital identity certificate.
- Function: Same as digital driver’s license, can be used for supported TSA airport security checks.
- Restrictions: This cannot be used to replace a physical passport for international travel and is limited to domestic security identity verification.
Three key limitations of Apple Wallet digital passports: you still need to bring physical documents!
Although digitalization is convenient, in order to avoid being hindered in your journey, please be sure to pay attention to the following restrictions:
- Police enforcement does not necessarily accept: Currently, law enforcement agencies in most states (such as police inspections) are not equipped with devices to read digital ID cards. Always carry your physical driver’s license with you when driving.
- Not applicable to international customs clearance: Digital ID cards are only available for TSA security checks within the United States. When going abroad (including entering and exiting U.S. customs), you still need to use a physical passport.
- What should I do if my phone is out of battery? Newer iPhones support the use of fast cards in power saving mode. Even if the phone automatically shuts down due to low battery, there is still a chance to use it in a short period of time. However, to be on the safe side, physical cards are still the best way to register.
