The folding iPhone was rumored to be iPhone Ultra, but when we opened the lid, a device appeared with a name that no one had imagined: “iPhone Duo.” Why on earth wasn’t “Ultra” adopted?

US media MacRumors speculates that the reason the iPhone Duo was not an “Ultra” was simply because its specs were not worthy of the Ultra name.
Indeed, looking at the specs, it can be said that the configuration is unsatisfactory for a top-of-the-line Ultra model, as it does not have a telephoto lens, does not have Face ID, and does not have an action button.
As for the Duo name, this is actually not the first time Apple has used the name Duo for a product. Apple uses the name Duo on its 1990s laptop PowerBook Duo and the early 2020s MagSafe Duo charging pad.
When you think of recent Apple products that come with Ultra, the Apple Watch Ultra immediately comes to mind. Other than that, there’s CarPlay Ultra and M1 Ultra to M5 Ultra chips.
Did you save the name for the 20th anniversary model?
Some speculate that the reason Apple didn’t name the foldable iPhone the iPhone Ultra was because they wanted to use that name on the iPhone’s 20th anniversary model.
In any case, there is currently no product called “iPhone Ultra”, and there is no guarantee that one will appear in the future.
Another reason that I personally think is that Apple originally intended to use the name Ultra for the foldable iPhone, but the leaked information became so widespread that they may have avoided releasing it as the iPhone Ultra.
