ESR Atelier case + Geo wallet stand, testing two stands with iPhone 17 Pro

We combined ESR’s “Atelier Magnetic Case for iPhone 17 Pro” and “HaloLock Geo Wallet Stand” and tested the texture, operability, two types of stands, “search”, and card storage after using the device for about a week. Fully loaded it weighs 356 grams and requires wallet removal for MagSafe charging. On the other hand, even after I dropped it several times, it didn’t get scratched or show any dirt. We will introduce the things you should know before purchasing, including the fact that the holding power changes depending on the number of cards.

This time I tried the “Atelier Magnetic Case for iPhone 17 Pro Camera Control Cover with Flex Stand” which allows you to use the camera frame of the case as a stand, and the “ESR HaloLock Geo Wallet Stand” which is compatible with Apple’s “Find”.

Since the case with a stand is stacked with a wallet with a stand, it may appear that the functions are duplicated. When I actually used it, I found that the case side was only for horizontal use, and the wallet side had separate roles for both vertical and horizontal use, and they did not overlap.

Atelier magnetic cases are also available for the 17 Pro Max, but the one we tested this time is for the 17 Pro. It comes in four colors: black, deep burgundy, light gray, and misty blue, and the black and deep burgundy that I tried this time were released first.

The total price for the black case and wallet is 10,398 yen, and the combination with deep burgundy is 10,798 yen. Choosing one will be easier if you consider whether you need all the features or whether the case alone is sufficient.

The case has a good texture and operability.

The surface of the case has fine irregularities and feels a little smooth to the touch. ESR states that the material is organic silicone leather, but it does not have the same stickiness as general soft silicone cases. This texture was my favorite.

However, if you hold the iPhone while lying down, it will be hard to get it to stick to your palm and it will feel slippery. If you often use the device with one hand for long periods of time, you may want to consider this feel before purchasing.

After using it for about a week, there was hardly any noticeable dirt. Although the case has a large surface that can be touched by hands, there is no problem with fingerprints floating around. ESR claims that it has an antifouling coating, which is effective for at least one week.

The volume buttons and side buttons are easy to press, and the camera controls are not difficult to operate. With the case attached, there were no instances where I felt dissatisfied with the button operations.

The metal-like frame surrounding the camera part has a strong presence and is designed to be higher than the lens. The inside of the case has a microfiber lining that wraps around your iPhone.

The Flex stand is for horizontal use only, so you can choose the orientation.

By raising the camera frame, the case itself can be used as a horizontal stand. ESR is said to support angle adjustment from 15 degrees to 69 degrees.

It can only be used horizontally. The camera frame supports part of the width of the main body, so you cannot stand the iPhone upright even if it is held vertically. As long as you use the case alone, it’s best to keep in mind that there are no situations where you can use the stand with a vertical screen.

You can choose the orientation, even if it is placed horizontally. When I placed it horizontally with the USB-C terminal side on the right, I noticed that the other side would float slightly depending on the thickness of the stand. Reversing the orientation will make it more stable, so it doesn’t mean you can’t use it, but it doesn’t necessarily mean you can place it in the same way you like.

It’s convenient to not have to carry around a separate stand when you want to watch videos with just the case. When you include the point of choosing the direction in which you want to place it, it is better to think of it as an auxiliary function that can be used quickly when needed, rather than an everyday fixed stand.

The mechanism of using the case’s camera frame as a stand was also used in the ESR iPhone 16 Pro case that I reviewed previously.

I dropped it a few times, but it didn’t cause any noticeable scratches.

According to ESR, the Atelier magnetic case has passed tests three times the US military standard (MIL-STD-810H) and has shock-absorbing structures on the four corners. Details of the test conditions have not been made public.

A drop test was not conducted this time. However, I dropped it several times while using it. In both cases, the falls were from around waist height onto the flooring. There are no noticeable scratches on the case or the iPhone itself.

The results will vary depending on the height and angle of the fall, and the flooring material, so protection performance is not guaranteed. Still, I’m sure I’ve caught some of my daily carelessness. This gave me peace of mind when handling a product that weighs 356 grams when fully loaded.

Geo wallet is highly stable

When I attached the Geo wallet stand to the case, the magnetic force was quite strong, so I didn’t have to worry about it accidentally coming off. You will need to consciously apply force when removing it. No matter what angle you hold it while carrying it, there is no sign of it peeling off or falling off. This product is used with the card inserted, so the strength of this suction is effective.

There is a grip on the back that you can put your finger into, which is well done. The iPhone 17 Pro weighs 356 grams with the case and wallet attached, but since you can hold it with your fingers, you can hold it stably despite its weight. Even if you operate the screen while holding it with one hand, it doesn’t feel like you’re supporting it with just your palm. Although it is a heavy product, I didn’t find it difficult to hold.

When the wallet is opened and used as a stand, it is stable whether placed vertically or horizontally. The Flex stand on the case side can only be placed horizontally, so if you want to stand up your iPhone in portrait mode, the wallet side comes into play. The ground surface is wide, and I felt it was easy to use not only for watching videos but also for checking notifications on a vertical screen.

You can store up to 5 cards, 3 on the outside pocket and 2 on the inside. When I actually tried it, when I put 3 cards on the outside, the cards did not fly out and were held firmly. It’s easy to put in and take out.

On the other hand, when I only put 2 cards on the outside, my credit card popped out several times. It seems that the cards are held together by the force that pushes them against each other, and the less the number of cards, the less secure they will be.

In other words, this product is designed to be used by filling the outside. If you only have one or two cards, it is safer to put them on the inside instead of on the outside, or to fill in the outside by adding unused cards.

If you mainly use cashless payments and rarely carry cash, you can combine your iPhone and several cards into one. It’s easy to go out without having to carry a wallet, and it’s appealing to people who want to reduce their luggage as much as possible.

It also has an RFID blocking function, which helps reduce the risk of your card information being read without contact. However, RFID blocking is a measure to read card information, and is not a function to prevent cards from falling out. Before you start using it, it would be a good idea to check whether it will fall out depending on your card configuration.

Similar to ESR’s Aura wallet stand that I reviewed previously, it is a product that can integrate a smartphone stand and card storage, but the big difference with this Geo wallet is that it supports “search”.

MagSafe charging requires removing the wallet.

When using the case alone, when I brought the MagSafe charger close to it, it adsorbed without shifting, and I was able to charge it without any problems. Because the camera frame is used as a stand, the MagSafe area in the center of the back remains empty. You can also charge the battery while the stand is upright.

On the other hand, I could not charge it with the Geo wallet stand attached. This is because the wallet is attached to the center of the back, so there is no place to attach the charger. You need to remove your wallet every time you charge it.

This step is unavoidable if you intend to carry the card around all day long and then charge it when you get home. On the other hand, if you use the case alone at home and attach the wallet only when you go out, the timing of charging and the timing of removing the wallet will naturally overlap.

“Search” is easy to register and check location

Registration to “Search” was completed simply by following the included instructions. Open the “Find My” app on your iPhone, select “Add Inventory” from the “Find My Inventory” tab, then “Other Supported Inventories” to find the Geo Wallet Stand.

When I played the sound after registering, it was loud enough to be noticed even from a distance. The location information on the map is also quite accurate in my testing. When you can’t find your wallet at home or on the go, this will help you narrow down your search.

Since it supports “Find”, it is a reassuring feature for people who tend to misplace their card slots. However, even if the wallet can be found using location information, it cannot detect if the card itself has been dropped. The retention status of the outer pockets must be checked separately.

Fully loaded 356g is not light

The case weighed 54 grams and the Geo wallet stand weighed 84 grams. My iPhone 17 Pro weighs 219 grams alone, and 356 grams with the case and wallet attached.

Compared to the standalone iPhone 17 Pro, it weighs 137 grams more, making it about 63% heavier. There is a difference of 1 gram between the total weight of each individual item and the actual value when fully equipped, but the minimum readability of the scale I used is 1 gram.

Immediately after holding it in my hand, it felt quite heavy. As I continued to use it, I got used to it, but when I put it in the pocket of my loose-fitting pants, the weight causes the pants to shift. If you always use it fully equipped when you go out, you should check the weight before purchasing.

If you want to make it lighter, you can just remove the wallet. If you use the case alone at home and attach a wallet with cards only when you go out, it will be easier to adjust the function and weight. Since the wallet is removed when charging, the operation overlaps with this usage.

I will continue to use it as is

The surface of the Atelier magnetic case has a slightly smooth texture. It feels slippery when I hold it while lying down, but I like the feel of it. Although I dropped it several times while using it, there were no noticeable scratches. Dirt is not noticeable either. The biggest impression I was left with after a week was the sense of security that it was okay to be handled roughly.

You can hold the Geo wallet stand by putting your fingers in the back. At 356 grams, it’s not light by any means, but as long as you have your fingers on it, you can hold it stably despite its weight. No matter what angle you hold it at, there is no sign of it peeling off or falling off, which is great for a product that you carry around with cards.

The two stands are not exact duplicates. The Flex stand on the case side is only for horizontal display and cannot be used with portrait screens. If you want to stand it vertically, open the wallet side. On days when the wallet is removed, the case side is sufficient if it is placed horizontally. The roles are divided.

If you value lightness, the case alone is sufficient. MagSafe charging can also be used as is. However, the lightness of being able to leave my wallet behind and the peace of mind that I can handle it a little roughly was worth the trade-off for 356 grams. If you put 3 cards on the outside, you don’t have to worry about them falling out. I will continue to use it as is.
